Classes for odd-semester students in UG such as the 3rd and 5th semester and PG 3rd semester at the University of Calcutta have already started in the digital mode, while some institutes such as the Presidency University will start classes from 01 Oct 2020.

In the month of October, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) will also start classes.

Without being disturbed by semester classes, faculty members across all universities are making arrangements to ensure that final exams are held smoothly.

As Presidency registrar Debajyoti Konar stated on 25 Sept 2020, as of 01 Oct 2020, departments could adopt alternative modes and methods, i.e. remote-digital mode, designed by departments in an efficient and innovative way to maintain social distance for student safety and health.

A faculty member at a north Kolkata CU college stated that the study materials they mostly send can be downloaded when the internet is available with regard to odd-semester classes.

And many of the students find it difficult to keep up-to-date with the curriculum that resides in those cities, where there is a poor connexion to the Internet and because of excessive data costs.

Meanwhile, Siuli Sarkar, principal of Lady Brabourne College, is concerned about how they have been holding online classes since July for UG intermediate semesters.

In order to ensure that classes are held unhindered, the teachers have been allocated their respective duties along with tests when the final-year exams begin.

Arts and science intermediate semester classes started from 24 Aug 2020 and engineering from 07 Sept 2020, according to teacher Partha Pratim Ray at Jadavpur University.

She also referred to the reduction in the duration of the time class and the disconnection of error while taking classes.

Universities starting intermediate semesters late may have to rush through some topics without the syllabus being curtailed, and the practical classes are another challenge.

That is why most universities have approached the theoretical section to continue with it.

As JU and CU-affiliated colleges begin Thursday's final-year / semester exams, candidates have been told to talk to the nearest cyber cafes so that they can visit there in an emergency and upload the scanned or response script images.
