How important are club memberships in IIM, Bangalore?
I have a few friends from IIM Bangalore and they were able to give some information regarding the clubs at the institute.
- It is not easy to be selected into one of the clubs. This is specifically in regards to the top 7-8 clubs. You are required to go through a selection process of multiple rounds which are structured by the senior coordinators (SCs) of the club. You need to perform tasks and have to qualify for several interview rounds to get selected for the membership of the clubs. The selection would not be just about your ability and credentials. It will also judge how suitable you are for the culture of the club. The competition for selections is quite high as many students compete against each other to get into the clubs and many don’t care at all about them.
- There can be a certain amount of benefit for you if you join one of the clubs in regards to placements. You can include the activities you participated in, in your resume. You can also get help before and during the placement process begins for your batch.
- It takes an immense amount of hard work in being part of an active club. You would have to attend meetings for hours, roam around the campus any time of the day to get things done, and so on. But you would also have this group of friends from various backgrounds and communities. You surely can learn a lot by being part of the events which are organized by the Clubs.

Should I join IIM Bangalore or take a job at Ernst & Young as an Associate Consultant?
Given a chance, you should join IIM Bangalore. Getting selected at one of the top IIM is no easy feat. It is the charised dream of many MBA aspirants to join IIM Bangalore and for good reasons. Doing an MBA from IIM Bangalore will certainly elevate your career. You can get a job at Ernst & Young through IIM Bangalore placements later too, if you want a creeer in consulting.
Is it beneficial to do IIM Bangalore Certificate Program on general management?
Getting yourself educated from top institutes is always a good choice and IIM B will definitely prove beneficial in this aspect. However, if you are planning to do this course for the sake of getting a job, the certificate will probably not help.
If you are doing this course for gaining knowledge, this is just the beginning. You will get less knowledge compared to a full time student in terms of the hours you put in and the knowledge you gain. You should think of going for a PGP* program where you will be able to learn much more and it will eventually help you in job searches.

- The quality of education and mode of delivering the topics is another important aspect.
- Both online and offline modes should be adopted to ensure the effectiveness of the course.
- The duration, of course, should also be kept in mind, which is 6 months, if you devote 10 hours per week or a maximum time of 1 year but not more than that.
- You should always consider fees. It should be from 2 to 3 lakhs for one year but not more than that.
- Often the placements are the major concern of all the students, the college should provide the basic guidance for CV building and answering the interview questions innovatively.
