Lives in Bangalore

Every Institute has its unique aspects as well as its own strengths and weaknesses. Some factors to consider include the quality of the faculty, the resources available to students, the research opportunities, and the campus culture.

IIT Roorkee, BITS Pilani, and IIT BHU CS are definitely excellent but IIIT Hyderabad wins the race when it comes to CS. It’s second only to IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, and Madras. Because of only 2 branches, the entire focus of the Institute is on CS only. The opportunities, ambiance, and faculty are aligned with the requirements for a good CS branch. Another good option is IIT BHU because of its high ROI.

Having known a few friends in all 4 institutes, I can confidently say that those who chose IIIT Hyderabad CS over IIT Roorkee are doing better now. The IIT tag certainly is helpful but only to a limited extent. The exposure provided by IIIT Hyderabad and its excellent placement opportunities overshadows the much coveted IIT Tag making it a better choice among all institutes. But those looking for stability, facilities, academia, and vast opportunities can go for IIT Roorkee.

For CSE specifically, IIIT Hyderabad is better than IIT Roorkee, BITS Pilani, and IIT BHU. It offers a better faculty base, exposure, entrepreneurship and start-up culture, research interface, and placement opportunities in the CS domain. It also has the advantage of a metro location. The campus is in close proximity to many industry houses. IIIT Hyderabad CSE average package for B.Tech students is INR 18.53 Lakhs. It has the best coding culture among all the institutes in the country.

On the flip side, life at IIIT H is pretty unidimensional. Besides the CSE domain, you won’t get much exposure to anything.

All the above-mentioned institutions are among India’s top colleges but in terms of CSE, IIIT Hyderabad is a step ahead due to all-rounded faculty and course curriculums. The core subjects of CSE are being taught in 1st Year itself at IIIT Hyderabad while in IIT Roorkee & IIT BHU 1st year students are taught mainly Science Courses, other departmental courses as well as some extracurriculars. The research culture at IIIT Hyderabad is also better than any of these other institutes.

Beside curriculum and academics if we take other things in comparisons like campus life then the order will be IIT(BHU)>IITR>BITS>IIIT Hyderabad since in IIITH there is less exposure other than Technical Sector while one can have a good campus life in IIT’s as well as BITS. In terms of flexibility BITS and IIT’s are much better than IIITH. The same follows for college fests, clubs, societies. IIT’s and BITS have many societies and clubs ranging from drama societies, arts, and cultural clubs, etc. There are many good fests organized in IIT BHU and Roorkee. Every year Inter IIT events also take place in which students from all IIT participate in cultural, sports, and technical events.

If we talk about alumni base, then IIT(BHU) being a 100-Year-old Institution has the largest and most diverse alumni network. IIT Roorkee also has a vast alumni network. So, in terms of the alumni network the order will be IIT(BHU)>IITR>BITS>IIITH.

Now in terms of placements, IIT’s are known for their good placements records. There are other departments apart from CSE in IITs, so companies are not only restricted to software, but students are also placed in other sectors (Non-CSE jobs) like Management, Consulting, Business, etc. which diversifies the opportunities for students. BITS also being a brand name attracts many top software firms. So according to placements, the preference of these colleges will be in the order IITR~IIT(BHU) >IIITH>BITS.

If you want to pursue higher studies MS/Ph.D. abroad then IIT’s must be given priorities than BITS and IIITH due to reputation and brand name of IIT’s all over the world. Since your question is restricted to CSE Education then overall the review is IIITH>IITR~IIT(BHU) ~BITS.
