Will I get admission to the IIT in Mandi or Guwahati if I scored a mark of 250 in the JEE Advanced?

ZP
Zakia Parween Posted On : July 9th, 2021
There is a fair chance that you will get admission at IIT Mandi and IIT Guwahati with 259 marks in JEE Advanced. But it also depends on the rank you scored in JEE Advanced as one can't predict your rank and whether you get your desired branch or not. But, and if you could have scored 250 in that paper, you could have been easily under the top 500. So it’s all relative to paper and going by the trends of the last few years, a score of 250 will be enough to get a decent branch at these two institutes. You should go through the official website of the institute to get an idea about the required cutoff.

Which one should I join: the NIT Surathkal's M.Tech in CSE or the IIT Guwahati's M.Tech in theoretical computer science?

Sandip Pal Posted On : June 28th, 2021
Getting a master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from one of the Indian Universities can feel like being stuck in a place forever. If you do not take IISc and the top IITs, no other University or college in India provides a good quality program for Master’s in Computer Science. NIT Surathkal is popular for its B.Tech in CSE but not for the Master’s program that the college has to offer. It would be advised for you to prefer IIT Guwahati any day since it has been ranked among the Top 8 IITs in the country. Several of the recent IITs have been created to serve the purposes of the states. These IITs are managed by one of the top 5 IITs in India. Most candidates would certainly choose IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech program. Assuming you are studying M.Tech to learn, not to get a job then you should definitely prefer IIT Guwahati over NIT Surathkal. If you want a job, there are several more ways to do that. If you are skilled enough to get admission at IIT Guwahati then you can have a decent job in hand in the future. If you want to pursue a Master’s program and learn, you would be way ahead in IIT Guwahati than in NIT Surathkal.

M
Monika Posted On : June 14th, 2021
One of my friends studied at IIT Guwahati. According to him, choosing IIT Guwahati over IIT Bombay will be a better option. The demand for designers is increasing day by day. Companies today have a requirement for a great interface. Designers have a high scope in their future. Most of the students graduating from IIT Guwahati are inclined to a career in the field of Interaction Design. Companies like Microsoft, Uber, Flipkart, Sprinklr, Ola, etc. hire B.Des graduates for roles of UI or UX designers. Categories B.Des from IIT Bombay B.Des from IIT Guwahati Course Fee 8.33 lakh 8.63 lakh Placement Percentage - 80-95% Highest CTC 27.9 LPA 35 LPA Average CTC - 12-15 LPA Recruiting Companies 3M, Adobe, Cadbury, Barclays, etc. Flipkart, GE Healthcare, Mindtree, JP Morgan, etc. Finally, it depends on the marketing of their design, and why it stands out among similar designs. A designer needs to be creative and well updated with the ongoing trends and interests of the industry.

Which is the best option, Mathematics, and Computing at IIT Guwahati, CSE at IIIT Hyderabad, or CSE at BITS Pilani?

A
Admin Posted On : May 4th, 2021
CSE at IIIT Hyderabad is so far the best possible program one can aspire for in India in the software industry. It’s better than IIT-B CSE and hence, far better than BITS Pilani or IITG CSE.  IIIT Hyderabad IIIT Hyderabad has initiated a dedicated software inclined course structure right from the first year. It is a course highly inclined towards academics.  The institute completely focuses on preparing software experts called CODERS.  It has highly active coding clubs, excellent coding culture, and the highest average package among the above-mentioned colleges. However, it lacks a lot in the overall development due to the poor campus life. You have to leave your campus life behind if you are willing to be extremely academic. BITS Pilani It has a great course structure along with great campus life. You will be very happy with the coding culture over there.  The institute enjoys years of alumni outreach.  0% attendance can sometimes put forward a very lenient attitude of your and might even affect the coming phases of your life. IITG MnC This branch offers a BTech degree and has a course with 45-50% Maths, 45% CS and some finance courses.  The campus life in IITG is definitely amazing and the weather is pleasant. However, the coding culture is lacking as compared to the other two.  The location and young alumni network is a major factor you should consider. Considering all pointers mentioned above, it is clear that CSE at IIIT Hyderabad will be a best suited option for you.

Which is better, ECE at IIIT Allahabad or Civil in IIT Guwahati (interested in coding)?

Bhavya Rawal Posted On : April 29th, 2021
The electronics and Communication Engineering branch of engineering is not limited to coding but deals mostly in hardware than software. Likewise, core sector engineering also demands coding skills. You will require it while analyzing structures, thermal and flow modeling, vibration, etc. Following are some recommendations for you: Follow your passion. Choose the branch that you are passionate about. If rectifiers, diodes, microprocessors, amplifiers, microwave, power electronics, etc. excite you, go for electronics. If mechanics, structures where you can yourself make giant elements interest you, civil would be the right choice. Placements at IIIT will definitely be good but, an IIT will always be an IIT, both in the short as well as in the long run. As a civil student, you will get an opportunity to opt for a minor at IIT Guwahati. This gives you a chance to study electronics and communication along with civil. Even during the placements, you can sit for the top software companies or consulting or banking jobs. Hence, IIT Guwahati is a fair choice even considering the short term. After two to three years of job, most of the IIT graduates go for an MBA, MS, Civil Services, Engineering Service, or join as a faculty at some top coaching institutions. Wherever you go and whatever you do, the tag of an IITian will always remain with you and will definitely benefit you. This might be quite surprising but many talented people who at one point in their lives dreamt of starting their own company, becoming the next Elon Musk or Steve Jobs go the central government jobs. They end up joining civil services or engineering services or some other central government job. After a certain point in time in life, 99 percent of the youth are attracted by central government jobs.  To be honest, if you want to go for engineering services or similar central government gazetted level services, civil engineering would be the best choice. Since you are interested in coding, I am not sure of the work satisfaction that you will get working as an electric engineer for a core central government job.

Which institute is better for CSE, BITS Pilani, IIT Guwahati or IIT BHU?

KC
Kiran Chugh Posted On : April 21st, 2021
As we know, IITs are the best institutes for engineering in India and here in comparison with BITS Pilani. You should always choose IITs as these are considered the best and have the best faculty and academics. And among all these colleges, I would suggest you go for IIT BHU.  Infrastructure: IIT BHU is located at the heart of the city, Varanasi which is one of the most beautiful cities of our country and also a very popular tourist destination. The campus is built over 1400 hectares of land and the architecture is traditional and straightforward yet serene. It is better connected to the city and commuting is very convenient too. Although the campus of IIT Guwahati is more beautiful with all the modern facilities, it is located on the outskirts of the city and consumes a lot of time to reach the main city. Placements: The placements of IIT BHU are very satisfactory and the placement committee provides tremendous support to its students to get placed at top companies. According to the recent placement trends, CSE IIT BHU is far better than IIT Guwahati and Pilani. The placement trends of the institute are somewhat on the same level as IIT KGP. Other Benefits: If you are planning to prepare for competitive examinations like CAT, GRE, GMAT in the future you will get good coaching classes at Varanasi.  If you're able to secure a seat at IIT BHU, then do not miss this opportunity and just go for it.

Which one is better for MTech programmes in ECE, NIT Surathkal or IIT Guwahati?

Dhruv Kaushik Posted On : March 30th, 2021
Among the above two institutes, M.Tech in IIT Guwahati at any ECE branch is better than NIT Surathkal, considering the fact of being an IIT, where placements are always a step ahead. The table below gives a brief level of comparison among the two institutes. Particulars M.Tech at IIT Guwahati M.Tech at NIT Surathkal Total Fees Rs. 55,150 Rs. 1.85 Lakhs Median Salary Offered Rs. 9 LPA Rs. 7 LPA Comparison: (Winning Institute - IIT Guwahati) According to the placement records in M.Tech, VLSI has a greater edge in packages offered at NIT Surathkal. So, it is the most preferred choice in the institute. To be very precise, placements for M.Tech students at NIT Surathkal are not very good. The placement statistics are available on the college’s website. IIT Guwahati, being an IIT, offers better placement than any NIT.  There are several options in IIT Guwahati for M.Tech, such as VLSI, Power and Control, Signal Processing, Communication Engineering, etc. IIT Guwahati is one of the greatest institutes for M.Tech in Signal Processing in India. Therefore, considering the placements and the versatility of choices available as ECE streams, IIT Guwahati should be the preferred choice.

Is IIT Guwahati becoming the next IIT Kanpur?

Debdeep Majumder Posted On : March 9th, 2021
Considering the academic pressure at IIT Guwahati, the answer is NO. This is because you will be putting extra efforts into doing not-so-important work and will not gain much out of it. However, this question here is not concrete. Not all students are the same and not all have the same expectations. Some of them might think of it as an easy road to getting a decent job whilst. There are some who have expectations regarding the grading system, tough assignments, hard quizzes, and exams. It is not a good idea to look at it in just one way. IITK is not just about academics but also about extra-curricular activities and a lot of fun. Assuming that IITK is just about academics is similar to assuming that IITB is only about chilling and IITs like IITGn and all the new IITs are crap. IITG requires you to put extra effort into doing unimportant work which ultimately does not contribute much. This creates a negative effect as it restricts your technical and non-technical interests. If you choose to work hard, you will end up having a high CPI but, not exploring your interests and less knowledge in many courses. It is equally important to remember that an institution is not just about its rules or fests. So, it is better to focus on other important matters than comparing IITs based on the academic curriculum only.

Should I take IIT Gandhinagar CSE or IIT Guwahati ECE?

Shivani Tiwari Posted On : March 5th, 2021
CSE Gandhinagar is a better option than ECE Guwahati and the main factor is the branch. Both the branches are totally different irrespective of the fact that you can learn to code in ECE. You will be given some coding knowledge in the ECE branch but then CSE is all not only about coding. It’s a way beyond that. CSE has all structures of mathematics which includes statistics, logic, algebra, probability, calculus, and much more.  Below mentioned are some courses offered in CSE. CS 321: Algorithm analysis and design CS 322: Discrete mathematics CS 324: Devising interactive web applications CS 421: Information security CS 422: Data mining CS 424: Sensors, phones, and cloud computation applied to hazard mitigation CS 425: Introduction to computational complexity theory CS 426: Markov chains and queuing models CS 427: Reliability engineering and many others  Apart from the branch, Both the colleges are exceptionally good. IIT Gandhinagar is a well-established college. Whereas IIT Guwahati is a college that is nearly 14 years older than IIT Gandhinagar.  The cut-off ranks for ECE at IIT Guwahati and CSE in IIT Gandhinagar are as follows. IIT Guwahati ECE 1729  IIT Gandhinagar CSE  1548  Talking about the branches, CSE has been in the trend. The demand for software engineers is constantly growing with the evolution of Artificial Intelligence(AI), Machine Learning(ML), and Data Science. The placements are decent. There are many start-ups related to ML and AI which have the investor’s eye. If the students are from IIT’s they are well paid in every sort. Plus, IIT Gandhinagar is one of the prime institutes that furnishes all the exciting opportunities applicable for a student's overall growth. Whatever, be your choice, both the colleges are great and you will definitely enjoy your years at these institutes.

I am selected for a summer internship at IIT Gandhinagar as well as IIT Guwahati. Which one should I prefer?

Vivek Bansal Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
As a student, and having friends at IIT Gandhinagar, quite frankly giving an explicit and direct comparison between both the institutes is not quite possible. Nevertheless, there are certain plans for internships that have to be carried out at IIT Gandhinagar.  You must be aware of the fact that the accommodation and hospitality provided to the interns are free of cost. And all the interns here are given such an experience through and through here. From fun DJ nights, games and sports tournaments, happy hours-everything is carried out so that the interns carry a fulfilling experience with them back home.  As projects are concerned, your progress would be observed each day closely by the Professors. And you would be required to submit your reports every day demonstrating your progress. A grand infrastructure which includes an excellent library facility. Wifi is available 24*7. The hostel rooms are clean and comfortable.  Having said that we all wish you would, by all means, have the time of your life at IIT Gandhinagar.
