Should I study CSE at BITS Pilani or CSE at IIT BHU?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : March 24th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

When deciding between IIT BHU and BITS Pilani, it's important to consider both colleges from different perspectives. Both institutions have their own strengths, and making a decision between the two can be challenging. Here are some important things to consider about each institution:

IIT BHU:

It is considered one of the top IITs after the top five IITs in India. It has a vast infrastructure and lab facilities because of its affiliation with Banaras Hindu University (BHU). It has a long history of excellence in education and has been around for longer than some of the other IITs. It has some of the best faculties among all the IITs. Most importantly, getting an IIT tag from IIT BHU can help you in many ways throughout your life, such as impressing people and carrying it to foreign colleges and companies.

BITS Pilani:

When it comes to placement and package, BITS Pilani is considered superior to IIT BHU. Its placements are often higher than even the top IITs. The hostel facilities available at BITS Pilani are unmatched by any IIT. Even recruiters do not make a distinction between IITs and BITS Pilani when it comes to reputation.

Here are some more reasons why IIT BHU could be the right choice for you:

  • IIT BHU is part of the prestigious IIT league, which is considered the most prestigious group of engineering institutions in India.
  • Don't fall into the trap of people who might say that the IIT tag won't matter or that IITs are fake or the worst. The IIT tag can help you in many ways you might not have even thought of.
  • IIT BHU has a far better placement than BITS Pilani.
  • Being part of the IIT league means that you can explore yourself with other IITs by participating in inter-IIT tech, sports meets or other inter-IIT meets.
  • IIT has more brand value than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs charge fewer fees than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs have bigger and better alumni bases than BITS Pilani.
  • IITs are well-known and have a more international reputation than BITS Pilani.

Ultimately, the choice between IIT BHU and BITS Pilani will depend on your individual needs and goals. It is important to weigh the pros and cons of each institution and consider your future aspirations when making your decision.

Why is IIT BHU the worst IIT?

SB
Subham Biswas Posted On : October 21st, 2021
B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

There is no doubt that IIT BHU is one of the most renowned colleges in India and is comparable to the old IIT institutes. Here are some points mentioned that will prove why IIT BHU is a good IIT.

  • Approximately 34% of faculty members are lacking to fulfill the requirements in the IITs all over India whereas IIT BHU has no shortages and has highly knowledgeable and experienced faculties and they recruit the faculty similar to the norms of any older IIT.
  • The club activities of IIT BHU are maintained by the 2nd and 3rd-year students and teachers of the institution do not interfere. This helps the student to gain management skills and exposure.
  • Unlike other IITs, the course structure and timings of IIT BHU are quite lenient due to which the students can learn and follow their passion. This helps students to enjoy their college life and to be practical rather than mug up the theory.
  • The college has a huge campus. In inter-IITs, IIT BHU has its reputation in all the sports due to the amazing faculties and the students.
  • Although the institute possesses fewer facilities than the older IITs, administration improvements have been made in the last 3-4 years to ensure more facilities for the student.
  • The security has increased due to the nuisance created by the miscreants and also the authorities take strict actions.

Therefore, the institution is not the worst.

Ph.D Extractive Metallurgy & Hydrometallurgy, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2024)

The admissions in an M.Tech course at IIT BHU are completely based on your Gate score and there are no written tests conducted for M.Tech admissions.

If you get shortlisted for an MTech program at IIT BHU, there are three possibilities depending upon your branch.

  • You are shortlisted for the written test.
  • You are shortlisted for the interview.
  • You are shortlisted for counseling.

If you are shortlisted, you have to be present at the campus with the required documents. Which are as follows.

  • DOB Certificate
  • Receipt of the application processing fee
  • Category Certificate
  • Medical fitness certificate
  • GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR Certificate
  • Marksheets
  • Work experience certificate
  • Tow LOR
  • Copy of application form

When you are through with the selection process, i.e. written examination, interview, counseling, they will update a final list. In case of direct admission, you will get to know if you get a seat or not on the spot. After that, the formalities for admission will begin.

How are the hostels in IIT BHU?

SO
Sristhi Ojha, Posted On : November 11th, 2021
M.Tech Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2013)

One of my friends studied at IIT BHU, he used to avail hostel facilities. According to him, the hostels were overall good but had one complaint with the allotment of students. Most of the students there preferred 2 students sharing one room rather than 3.

Here’s mentioning some points about the hostels.

  • The Aryabhatta hostel is for freshers.
  • Every room has good ventilation.
  • The windows opening outside makes the room spacious.
  • Water coolers are present at every floor.
  • All rooms are equipped with 2 almirahs, 2 beds, 2 tables and 2 chairs.
  • Students can play badminton, tennis, etc. during their off time in the hostel premises.
  • The big hall at Aryabhatta hostel has 3 messes.
  • The mess staff are well organized as well.
  • Every furniture in the room is labelled with its respective room number to avoid misplacement.
  • Each floor has a common bathroom and toilet.
  • Wifi is also provided to the students.

Overall, the hostels here are very well maintained, the new hostels are better than the older ones but are comparatively smaller. To promote clean energy, solar panels are installed on the roof of each hostel.

Which one should I choose: IIT Jodhpur, IIT Ropar CSE or IIT BHU Electrical?

SS
Samita Saha Posted On : April 21st, 2021
Btech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2022)

All of these are very good IITs and all of them will give the IIT tag and the exposure you need, but I would recommend you to go for IIT BHU electrical over IIT Jodhpur or Ropar CSE.

  • Electrical engineering is one of the best courses and you will also get to learn some aspects of coding from computer science courses. This is very important in today's world and can be useful if you wish to get into a computer or technology-related job in the future.
  • Electrical and Electronics students are allowed to sit at all the campus interviews of every company including noncore companies too. This is a major advantage for electrical and electronics students to appear for more interviews and get their desired job. Moreover, in the present situation of India, most of the engineers prefer noncore jobs over core companies because they receive higher salaries and more recognition from them.
  • In your fourth year, you will also have core job opportunities in the campus placement drive. According to recent placement highlights of IIT BHU, many students got placed with decent CTC at core companies. Students also performed quite well in competitive examinations like GATE.
  • Among the given choices, IIT BHU is the oldest and have all the facilities required.

IIT BHU Electrical is definitely the better choice because of the above reasons.

What is a sure-fire way to change a branch in IIT BHU?

OB
Oindrila Bose Posted On : July 16th, 2021
Studied at IIT BHU (2019)

One of my cousins studied at IIT BHU, so I might be able to help you with the question. Here I'm mentioning some major key pointers which you should follow.

  • Attend the classes regularly and take class notes.
  • Do not miss Mechanical Workshops, Engineering Drawing classes. ED classes are a bit challenging but you have to be there strictly on time.
  • Drawing sheets would be submitted and graded on every turn. Try to keep your drawings tidy. You can of course take the help of your classmates.
  • For semesters buy previous year's question papers. Practice solved examples of ND Bhatt's book.
  • If you are kinda new to programming, do not panic and start early. Questions in the exam would be of a decent standard. Chemistry, Physics, etc are the easiest ones.

Recommended Booklist:

  1. Mathematics (Gorakh Prasad+Pondy Baba's Xerox)
  2. Thermodynamics (PKNag); Engineering Mechanics(Shames).

The curriculum has been updated. These pointers will surely help you to secure a higher GPA and may pave the way to branch change.
