Can a branch be upgraded in Thapar University Patiala and UIET Chandigarh on the basis of the first-year CGPA?

NJ
Nikhil Jain Posted On : May 14th, 2021

I have a few friends at Thapar University, so I can tell you the branch up-gradation procedure at Thapar.

  • If you want to update your branch, CGPA is not helpful. But that doesn't mean that you can't update your branch in some way.
  • At the end of the first semester, there is a "December exam," which has general PCM plus topics covered in the first semester.
  • The institute forms a rank list based on the December examination result. A counseling session for all empty seats in all branches is held based on the ranking list.
  • If in the December test two students have the same marks, their JEE rank is considered to resolve the dispute.

In general, one or two students leave each branch, so if you put in the required effort it’s not tough to upgrade your branch.

What are the negative points of UIET, Chandigarh?

HD
Harsita Dey Posted On : May 17th, 2021
BE from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2019)

I know a few people from UIET Chandigarh. Here are some of the things that they find bothersome.

  • Practicals and experiments in labs are limited to the course syllabus and even in some cases the methods and equipment to perform the given set of instructions to get the desired result are outdated as compared to the latest technology.
  • Lack of proficient faculty/teachers, who can make the particular subjects more exciting. Existing teachers can not even be enabled to build one’s interest in an already interesting subject like Artificial intelligence.
  • There is a lack of proper conversations and interaction among the students to coordinate and help each other in study and in other tasks as well.

In all above negative points, there is something positive which came forward is that you get a lot of free time to prepare for any competitive exams there as students of this college require only 75% of total attendance and if you are having less than it, the party people and students union compel authorities to make you sit for the exams.

How are the hostel and mess at UIET Chandigarh?

SR
Sampriti Roy Posted On : May 21st, 2021
BE Computer Science Engineering, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, UIET Chandigarh

Panjab University has a total of 8 boy's hostels and 10 girl's hostels (including 1 NRI hostel). Hostels are assigned to the students based on their AIR or by category. These rooms are two-tiered and Rooms on a guest basis are also available.

Now, let's take a look at the current state of boy's hostels, starting with the best.

  • Hostel 8, in all respects, is the best in terms of distance from the college (roughly a 50-meter walk) and the majority of the hostilities are from UIET itself, with some students from the BDS and MBA departments.
  • The food served in the mess is average, but it is better than that served in some other hostels. The only disadvantage of living here is that the main university (AC Joshi Library, StuC Food Point) is nearly 1.6 kilometers away.
  • Hostel Nos. 1, 2, and 3 will be a pleasant journey for you here at PU. It has all the advantages that a hostel should have, such as being close to the market, the StuC, the AC Joshi Library, and the mess here is quite pleasant (one the finest in PU). The food is about as good as it gets at home. The only issue with these hostels is the huge distance from college, i.e. 2.2 km.
  • The other hostels are all the same. As far as known, they are the average ones.

Bus and e-rickshaw services are also available there for transportation.

Which is better for CSE: Jaypee Noida (sector-62) or UIET, Chandigarh (Panjab University)?

AG
Ajit Goyal Posted On : April 20th, 2023
Studied at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida (2019)

If you're considering pursuing a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) program in India, you might be interested in comparing the offerings of different institutions. If you're wondering which one of these options, Jaypee Noida (sector-62) or UIET, Chandigarh (Panjab University) might be better for you, here are some reasons why Jaypee Noida might be a good choice:

  • Strong academics and facilities: One of the main advantages of the CSE program at Jaypee Noida is its academic quality. The program is known for its rigorous curriculum, experienced faculty, and modern infrastructure. You'll have access to well-equipped labs, libraries, and other resources that can enhance your learning experience. In addition, the faculty members are reputed in their respective fields and can provide you with valuable guidance and support throughout your academic journey.
  • Location: Another advantage of Jaypee Noida is its location. The institute is situated in Noida, which is a part of the National Capital Region (NCR) of India. This means that you'll be in close proximity to the capital city of Delhi and other major cities in the region. This can provide you with a range of opportunities to explore and learn beyond the campus, such as internships, workshops, and industry visits.
  • Good placements: One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a CSE program is the placement prospects. In this regard, Jaypee Noida is known for its good placement record. The institute has tie-ups with many reputed companies in the IT sector, which visit the campus for recruitment drives. If you perform well in the program and maintain a decent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), you'll have a good chance of getting placed in a reputed company with a decent package. It's important to note that a CGPA of above 7 is generally recommended for good placements, and anything above 7.5 can be considered excellent.
  • Programming skills can be an advantage: If you have a strong foundation in programming, this can give you an edge in the placement process. The faculty members and the Head of Department (HOD) at Jaypee Noida are known to be supportive of talented students, and can help you connect with relevant companies for internships and placements. With their guidance and your skills, you may even land a placement in a high-paying startup or company.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a CSE program in India that offers good academics, location, and placement prospects, Jaypee Noida could be a good choice. With its strong faculty, facilities, and industry connections, you can get a solid foundation for a career in the IT sector. However, as with any program, it's important to do your research, consider your own interests and strengths, and make an informed decision based on your individual needs and goals.

Which courses are good in UIET Chandigarh?

AV
Anshika Verma Posted On : June 2nd, 2021
B.E. Mech Engg. from University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (2019)

According to my friend studying B.Tech (IT) at UIET, this university follows the syllabus and modules of IITs. You will receive a BE degree instead of a B.Tech.

If we look at the flagship courses and placement opportunities, it may give us a rough idea of what course you should go for.

The University offers a total of ten degrees for UG and PG programs. Out of which BE remains the all-time popular course, which is offered in six branches: CSE, ECE, ME, IT, Biotechnology, Electrical, and Electronics Engineering.

As per my interaction with my friend, the best branches among these are CSE, IT, and ECE. If you are looking for some other branch, then it is suggested to look for some other college. The placement and other facilities for IT and CSE are very good.

Choose the course which is under your budget, has good placement opportunities, and obviously of your interest.

Is joining UIET Chandigarh (ECE) worth it?

RB
Rekha Bose Posted On : May 31st, 2021
Studied at University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University

Most colleges in India, even the top ones, usually fail to provide good placement opportunities for core branches like Electronics Engineering. The majority of the ECE students find their own way to get into consultancies, IT MNCs, or startups, some also choose to prepare for examinations like GATE and CAT.

UIET provides a good environment for the preparation of competitive examinations. Also, at least 50% of students of core branches in UIET prepare for GATE, CAT, or GRE. If you are expecting placement in one of the core branches, then don't join ECE in UIET rather take branches like CSE and IT.

If you are hardworking and want to prepare for GATE/CAT/GRE/ESE/UPSC then you can join UIET. Chandigarh has many good coaching centers for the preparation of these examinations.
