Malmö University is one of the universities in Sweden that has witnessed tremendous expansion since its establishment in 1998. The school currently offers 101 bachelor's programs and 90 master's programs in several fields. Professional education and training dominate Malmo's academic curriculum with the teacher training program being rated as one of the biggest in Sweden. With a strong reputation for churning out the best graduates in dentistry, dental hygiene, and dental technology, the school also offers B.Sc. programs in engineering for students seeking specialization in computer science and mobile IT, mechanical engineering and materials technology, product development and design, or building technology. International students applying for admission should also note that:
- 30% of the total of 24,000 students’ population is International students and this is way higher than that for the whole country. This means Malmo University admits the highest number of international students in Sweden
- 67% of the students undertaking bachelor’s programs are international students
- 30 credits make up one semester of full-time studies, 15 credits make up half a semester of full-time studies, or a full semester of part-time (50%) studies, while 7.5 credits are equivalent to one-quarter of a semester of full-time studies, or a full semester of part-time (25%) studies
- In Malmo University, a student can combine part-time courses to add up to a full-time study if the number of credits adds up to full-time studies.
- Out of the total number of bachelor and masters programs in Malmo University, only seven bachelor programs and 24 masters programs are taught in English
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, first-year English-taught programs will be conducted online for the autumn semester 2020

Malmo University Admission Deadlines
It is recommended that all international students apply for admission in the first admissions round, which opens from October until January each cycle so that there will be allowed enough time for tuition and other fees payment, and accommodation arrangements before the start of the semester. The second round application is only suitable for students from the European Union (EU), a European Economic Area (EEA) country, and Switzerland. However, international students who have already obtained a residence permit can apply for the second round of admission.
International students can apply for some other courses and distance learning courses starting in the spring semester. However, this is not suitable for students who need to apply for a residence permit for on-campus courses as there will be no time to finalize the preliminary registration before the resumption of study

English Language Requirements for International Students
International students who want to apply to Malmo University are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English by submitting one of the following scores.
Bachelor’s program admission requires scores equivalent of the Swedish upper secondary course English 6 while English 7 equivalent scores are required for most of the master's program admission.
Student Visa for International Students
International students are required to have a residence permit and/or an entry visa for study if they intend to stay and study for a duration longer than 3 months. The Applicant must have acquired a residence permit before entering Sweden.
The general requirements to get a residency permit are:
- Letter of acceptance from the university
- Partial payment of fees before handing the application

Bachelors programs, offered by Malmo University, also known as the first cycle, are equivalent to 180 credits. Malmo University Graduate Admissions
For entry to any of the master's program, the minimum requirement is a 4-year Bachelor's degree or a Bachelor's degree followed by a Master's degree (total of 4 years of study). Some programs require the applicant’s first degree to be in a related field. Malmo also considers applicants with a 3-year Bachelor's degree with honors in some social science or humanities majors. However, Students holding only a 3-year Bachelor's degree without honors are not deemed to meet the admission requirements for a master's program.
The following degrees are not honored as entry requirements for a master's program:
- A Post Graduate Diploma
- A Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from India, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh

An applicant may be waived from English language requirements if they meet certain criteria pre-decided by the University. Applicants are advised to check if they are eligible for this waiver. International students are recommended to apply for the first round of admission for the autumn semester, though they can also apply for the spring semester.
