A PhD student's view on King's College London.

King's College London is a famous world recognized institute with both states of the art facilities but also presents itself as an embodiment of it\'s historical achievements. King's has the department that I sought after.

Course Curriculum :

The course gives a good platform to explore and advance as a scientist. The filed of interest is available to you if you wish to pursue it. The university has incredibly smart individuals both academics and peers who can help you find your true passion in science.

Exams :

GCSE 10A* 2As A level 1A* 3As 1st-year modules 79% 2nd-year modules 60% 3rd year modules 65% 4th-year modules 65%

Placement :

There are many opportunities provided by kings. One of them is the king's experience programme where they can gain additional awards in extracurricular aspects that can help with life. Some programs do offer placements but at the end of the day, the job opportunities are made by the individual. King's provide the resources.

Internship :

Yes. Certain programs are tied to an internship opportunity. Others are not. Mine is a Ph.D. So it's technically a 3-year internship into academic research. I get a stipend and my tuition fees are covered through an external funder.

Fees :

Student fees are covered by my funder. Societies generally need membership fees but usually reasonable. The printing is cheap. I am fortunate enough to have a lab that doesn't pay for printing.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is good. I am not required to take any more exams except for the Ph.D. viva. The exams are generally a combination of coursework and timed examination which provides a good balance of both consistent and intense studying intervals. It trains you for the real world.

Faculty :

The faculty is perhaps a little too large because I do not feel any connection with other departments other than my own. It is a simple logistics problem. I do see them trying to alleviate the isolation but perhaps other means are required too.

Hostel :

I am in the king's residence - Wolfson's house. It is very good. Location wise I'm 5 minutes from my lab. I got this place using the king's residence portal. It is not the best portal and quite old. It requires some modernization.
