Presently ranked among the largest open universities in the world, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established in 1985 and currently offers 227 academic programmes through 21 schools and 67 Regional Centres spread across the country. Recently IGNOU announced a launch for 10 Online courses amid COVID-19 for its July 2020 admissions.

There are two intake sessions, January and July. For the January session, the online registration for most of the courses usually commences in the month of November/December every year and ends in the last week of February. While applications for July commences in May. Due to COVID-19 pandemic admissions were postponed for July 2020 session, final dates for registration have been extended to September 30, 2020.

IGNOU Admission 2020

Given below is a brief about the registration process for taking admission in the University.

Students can register online to secure IGNOU Admission 2020 in the courses offered by IGNOU under its Online Admission System (OAS). Students must follow the given steps to register themselves:

  1. Visit the official website of the IGNOU i.e. www.ignou.ac.in
  2. In the main menu click on ‘Register Online’.
  3. Select on online admission.
  4. After that, you will be redirected to the OAS page.
  5. Fill in all the required information to appear for the exam of IGNOU and then submit.

Before registration, students must ensure that they have the following documents:

  1. Scanned photograph & signature (maximum size 100 KB)
  2. Scanned copy of Age Proof & documents in support of educational qualification (Size 400 KB)
  3. Scanned copy of Category certificate (if applicable) & experience certificate (size 400 KB)
  4. BPL Certificate (size must be less than 400 KB)
  5. Fees can be paid through credit/debit card or net banking.

How to fill the Online Admission Form (OAS):

  1. Initially, click on the new user registration link & provide the basic details like name, mobile number & DOB.
  2. Now fill the whole application form with due attention & verify the details & submit. After form submission, your username & password will be provided to you on the registered email ID & phone number.
  3. Now login again through the existing user section & fill the online application form. You need to provide the following details in the application form.
    • Personal Information IGNOU FEE Details
    • Educational Qualifications (course & correspondence details)
    • Upload of desired (scanned) documents
    • After completion of all details click on ‘make payment’ & pay through debit/credit card or net banking (INR 60 only).

Status of Application:

Students can check their application status by simply clicking on the ‘Know your status’ section on the home page of OAS. They have to enter their contact number & the application status will be displayed on the screen (whether the application is successfully submitted on in progress).

NOTE: Students can also re-register themselves by following the same application platform as is given for general registration.

Guidelines for Admission for International Students

Foreign students residing in India having a valid student visa are eligible to seek admission in IGNOU’s selected programs. They will be required to pay an international fee applicable to them. For more details, the students can visit the “International Students” icon on the official website of the University. Programs with a limited number of seats are not offered to foreign students. 

Students can download the admission form from the website www.ignou.ac.in. They must fill up all the necessary columns and attach the relevant documents along with the fee. Submit the hard copy of the form at Director, International Division, IGNOU, Block No. 15. Section K, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi. 

IGNOU Scholarships

The University offers financial aid to students belonging to reserved categories viz. Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The candidates belonging to these categories are eligible for the Government of India Scholarships. They can collect forms from the Directorate of Social Welfare or from the office of the Social Welfare Officer of their State. They must fill it up and submit the form to the Regional Director at the Regional Centre for necessary certification.

Apart from this, the University also provides reimbursement of the program fee to students from SC/ST category as per their policy. Students are advised to visit the University website or contact the Regional Centre for more updates on the same. However, the scheme will only exempt the program fee and will not exempt registration fee, term-end exam fee, re-admission. 

NOTE: The students who are employed or who are availing any kind of fellowships from other agencies are not eligible for fee exemption.

IGNOU Study Material

The University has a provision to provide a soft copy of the self-learning material in place of printed material. A learner opting for the soft copy will be given a discount of 15% in the Programme Fee. The Option to this effect has to be indicated by the learners while filling in the Online Admission Form. Such learners will not be given printed self-learning material. The University sends study material to the students by Registered post/ Speed Post.

IGNOU Assignment

IGNOU assignments carry 30% weightage in the overall percentage of a candidate, which makes it compulsory for every student to finish and submit the assignments within the stipulated time, before the final date of submission. Finishing and submitting the assignments on time will make student obtain better marks overall and will prepare them for the Term End Examination (TEE). Students also need to submit the assignments to be eligible for the TEE. 

In order to submit the assignments, students have to first make sure the assignment is completed according to the guidelines mentioned on the university’s website. Upon completion, the assignment has to be scanned, through a computer or a mobile device. The scanned files must be organized and then emailed to the concerned official email address of IGNOU

The status of submitted assignments will be updated within 20-25 days after submission.

IGNOU Question Paper

The students can have access to previous year question papers on the official website of the university. It helps the students to boost their marks in their respective subjects and also in analyzing the coming examination. The TEE 2020 will be conducted from June 1 to June 27, 2020.

IGNOU Date Sheet

IGNOU has released a tentative date sheet for June Term-end examinations. It will be conducted from June 1 to June 27, 2020. Students must submit their exam form to be eligible to appear in the term-end examinations. However, the last date to submit the exam form has been extended until April 30, 2020. The date sheet released by the IGNOU contains exam dates, shifts, program code, registration dates, re-registration dates, hall ticket release date, project submission deadline, etc. Students can download IGNOU Date Sheet from the official website of the university. 

IGNOU Hall Ticket

IGNOU releases hall tickets for June term-end examination in the month of May on its official website. One can download the same using their 9-digit enrollment number. Candidates must carry the hard copy of their hall ticket to prove the authenticity. No one will be allowed to enter the exam hall without the hall ticket. IGNOU Exam Form 2020

The students appearing for June term-end examination must fill the examination form before the last date. The university has extended the last date till April 30, 2020. One can visit the official website to submit the exam form. Students are required to pay an application fee for exam form that can be paid through credit/debit card or Netbanking. IGNOU Exam Form is also available at the study centre and the regional centre of IGNOU. 

IGNOU Exam Centre

The students appearing in the term-end examination can opt for their preferred exam centre while filling the exam form. There are more than 653 exam centers throughout the country for the students to choose from. The selected exam centre will be allotted to the candidate to attend the examination of all the courses. No one is allowed to choose two examination centres for their term-end examination. IGNOU Exam Centre will be mentioned on the hall ticket of the candidate.

Evaluation Process in IGNOU

IGNOU follows a unique three-stage process to measure the performance of a student.

  • Self-Assessment: In terms of marks weightage of this section is nil, but it is very important for student’s mental growth.
  • Evaluation through Assignments: It includes 25 to 30% of the total weightage.
  • Term-End Examination (TEE): It includes 70 to 75% of the total weightage.

Computer Marked Assignments (CMA) are required to be sent to the IGNOU campus while the Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) have to be sent to the respective study centers.

IGNOU FAQs 

Ques: How to apply for admission to IGNOU?

Ans. The candidates seeking admission can apply through the IGNOU Online admission portal within the stipulated time. Candidates can also re-register for certain UG, PG and Research courses offered by IGNOU before within the stipulated time through the IGNOU re-registration portal. For admission to most of the IGNOU courses offered by the University, candidates are shortlisted for admission on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying degree. However, in case of some specific courses, the University conducts an admission test for selection of students.

Ques: When will I be notified about my acceptance?

Ans. You will be notified of your acceptance usually within two months after the receipt of your application in the Regional Centre when the review process has been completed.

Ques: What is the system of evaluation at IGNOU?

Ans. IGNOU follows a multi-tier system of evaluation - self-assessment exercises within each unit of study, continuous evaluation mainly through assignments which are tutor-marked, practical assignments as well as several seminar/workshops/extended contact programs, term-end examination, project work, etc. The evaluation of students will depend upon various instructional activities that they undertake. All assignments must be submitted by the stipulated date as announced by the university. These assignments are conducted prior to term examinations. 

Ques: What is the cost and mode of payment? 

Ans. Candidates can find their respective fee structures based on the course on the university’s official website. Make a draft in favour of IGNOU payable at the city where your Regional Centre is situated. For BScN (PostBasic), PGDHHM, PGDGM, PGDMCH, DNA, CCENAM, CNIC, CMCHC) on Registration Fee of INR 100 is to be paid. The candidates of PGDCC will also pay a registration fee of INR 500 The Programme Fee will be collected from the candidates upon their selection.

Ques: What are the documents required for admission?

Ans. The following documents are mandatory and must be produced at the time of application:

  • Print out of the filled online admission form with photograph affixed and duly signed.
  • Demand Draft/Cash Challan for the programme Fee / Fee for the first year/semester and have written your name, programme code and online Control No on the reverse The Demand Draft should in favour of IGNOU and payable at the city of the Regional Centre opted.
  • Attested copies of certificates in support of your educational qualification(s). If you are applying for BCA and have studied Mathematics at 10+2 level, attach mark sheet as proof.
  • Experience certificate where required.
  • Category certificate for SC/ST/PH/Minority candidates.
  • Age certificate wherever required

Ques: What are the cards accepted for fee payment?

Ans. The Visa and Master Cards are accepted for making the payment of the program fee. Payment of fee can also be made through Net Banking.

Ques: Are the Degree/Diploma Certificates provided by IGNOU recognized?

Ans. IGNOU Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates are recognized by all member universities of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and UGC. All the degree and Diploma offered by IGNOU are UGC recognized and are at par with Degrees/Diplomas/ Certificates of all Indian Universities/ Institutions.

Ques: Is there any provision for scholarship or reimbursement of fee in IGNOU?

Ans. Candidates belonging to reserved Categories, i.e  SC, ST and Differently abled candidates are eligibile for fee reimbursement by the state government. Apart from this, IGNOU also promotes Scholarship schemes like National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPEDP) for Post Graduate level programs. The scholarship can be obtained by applying at NCPEDP website. 

Ques: If I want to withdraw from the program after confirmation of my admission, shall I get my fee refunded?

Ans.  Fee once paid is not refundable in any circumstance. The admission fee paid  by a studentswill also not be adjusted in any other program. However, in case the university denies admission, the programme fee will be refunded after the deduction of processing fee in the same mode where the payment was made.

Ques: What is the time frame for getting confirmation of my admission?

Ans. The admission form submitted by all the applicants needs to be scrutinized, verified and accepted by the Regional Centre concerned for confirmation of the admission. It is the responsibility of Regional Centre to communicate with the applicants as soon as the process is completed. If the candidate has not been approached by Regional Centre, applicant can visit the Regional centre and seek information.
