Ques. Which is best for an MCA, JNU or NIT Surathkal?

● Top Answer By Akanksha Gupta on 15 Oct 20

Ans. JNU is considered to be one of the prestigious institutions in the country to pursue any degree. In 2019, the university secured 2nd rank among all the universities, approved by NIRF and NAAC ranking with A+ grade. NIT Surathkal is one of the oldest technological institutions in southern India, rated as the best technological institution in Karnataka. In 2019, NIT Surathkal ranked 21st among top institutions in India as per NIRF ranking. JNU: Admission: For admission to MCA students need graduation with a minimum 45% aggregate and a valid JNUEE score. The students who enrolled in the course of MCA find it very competitive when it comes to the entrance exam. The majority of the questions will be from mathematics till 12th class, general aptitude, and basic knowledge about computer science. The questions will be in objective form with multiple choice answers. The cut off for the selection process will be based on the availability of seats and performance of students during the personal interview. Placements: JNU was mostly renowned for the highly consistent placement rate of 100% and the placement cell is managed by the students. In the academic year 2018- 2019, the highest salary package is 25 LPA, whereas the average salary package is 4.5 LPA. The top recruiting companies like Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM, Wipro, TCS, Samsung, Infosys, Siemens, NEWGEN, etc. NIT Surathkal: MCA program at NITK is inclined more toward Application Development and emphasis on the latest programming language. The institute aims at producing trained professionals to meet the demands of the information technology industry. Admission: Students need 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA in BSc/BCA/BIT or BE/BTech to be eligible for MCA admission. The selection of MCA is through NIMCET scores. Placements: The institute has an excellent placement record which is highly accomplished and well-placed alumni serving both within the country and abroad. During 2018 – 2019, 75% of students were placed with the highest package was 18 LPA, the lowest package was 3.5 LPA and the average package was 8 LPA. The major recruiters were Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Oracle, Samsung, Goldman Sachs, IBM, TCS, Citicorps, Nokia, Dell, One Convergence, Radisys, JPMC, JP Morgan, Target Corp, Dolittle, etc. Finally, consider the aspects associated with both choices and choose the institute which will be more convenient.Read more

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 18 Oct 21

Ans. In order to prepare efficiently for JNU entrance, you will need to study smart. Read the editorial and international relations page of Hindu and IE to get a fair idea of what is happening around the globe. Read Arihant’s guide for JNU entrance for IR. Ques. Is JNU better for MSc in physics than the new IITs (like Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar etc.)?

● Top Answer By Dhruv Kaushik on 07 Sept 20

Ans. The overall value of an institute really matters when it comes to getting admissions and placements. Now, IIT being an institute that is at the top in its class helps its students in getting foreign admissions. Although JNU stands at the 2nd position in the list of rankings of universities by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Another advantage given by JNU is its location. It is situated in the hub of big companies and firms which eventually adds up to the university’s placement rate and other opportunities. Along with this, pursuing MSc in Physics from JNU costs a lot lower than the other IITs due to its student-friendly fee structure. You can probably finish your entire degree at JNU within IIT’s fee for a single semester. Students wishing to study at any IIT need to reconsider their financial position due to IITs expensive fee structure. Talking about MSc in Physics, IIT Delhi is top in all of the other IITs when it comes to Optics and Material Science. As a matter of fact, IIT Delhi provides the best of the best in the field of Optics. If you’re interested in Theoretical Physics then IIT Kanpur is the place for you. In the same way, IIT Bombay has an upper hand amongst all of the other IITs in Condensed Matter and Material Science. Pursuing MSc in Physics from an IIT, be it IIT Hyderabad, IIT Bhubaneshwar, or any other IIT really helps its students a lot in getting into Ph.D. programs offered by foreign universities and institutions.Read more

Ques. I want to pursue a master's in economics. Which one should I choose: Delhi School of Economics, JNU, Indian Statistical Institute, Paris-Sorbonne University or University of Munich?

● Top Answer By Ankit Bansal on 19 Aug 20

Ans. All of the above-mentioned institutes are good options for pursuing a master’s in Economics. You should decide the university based on your re-location ability, course fees, and most importantly your future career planning. Given below is a brief inside into the M.Sc Economics program at the above-mentioned institute. Course fees: Delhi School of Economics-Rs.12,465 (first-year fee) JNU- Rs.1,260 (first-year fee) Indian Statistical Institute- Rs.0 ( For sponsored candidates- Rs.20,000) Paris-Sorbonne University- 6,500 euros per year University of Munich – The institute does not charge any tuition fees. However, there is a semester fee of 128 euros for every student comprising a student services contribution (62 euros) and a basic fee for public transportation (66,50 euros). Placements: DSE- The companies that visit the campus for recruitment are mostly MNCs like JPMorgan, Nomura, Walmart, Citibank, P&G etc. The highest package is around 26 LPA and therefore the minimum is around 10 LPA. The average package is around 13-14 LPA. Students also receive internship offers and the stipend for internship varies depending on the company. JNU- The median salary offered to the students of this institute is around 8 LPA. Students also placed in various research institutes and chambers for summer internship program. Indian Statistical Institute- The average package at the institute is 19.8 LPA and the highest salary recorded is 42 LPA. Paris-Sorbonne University- The economics majors of the institute are regularly placed in Banking and insurance services; Audit in Economics; Audit in Finance and insurance; Financial and Economic Analyst; Demand planning/management; General business management; Government policy analysis. Ques. What should I choose between Pondicherry University, JNU, DU for MA philosophy? Why? Which is more economical?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 27 Sept 21

Ans. One of my friends graduated from Pondicherry University and having read online reviews of the alumni here are some things you should know about them.  If you are entering into the humanities stream, the top place in JNU. While DU is a fine university, it does not compete with JNU overall. If you want to study economics and English literature, either opt for JNU or DU because both of them have great departments in these fields.  JNU provides a great learning atmosphere. JNU is good in all respects. Pondicherry University is a good university, but it is nowhere near JNU or DU.Read more

Ques. Between JNU and Delhi School Of Economics, which option will be the best to pursue a PhD in economics for an individual?

● Top Answer By Keshav Jindal on 17 Jul 21

Ans. One of my cousins who did a Ph.D. said that choosing a college clearly depends upon the area of interest you have in mind for the research. It would be good if you start researching the professors of the colleges. If their field of expertise matches the field you wanted to opt for, then it’s a win-win situation. Well, If we talk about JNU I have been informed by one of my friends who did PhD from JNU that this university focuses on hardcore research. Moreover, it has a good number of professors who have decent experience in research. Whereas, DSE offers a master’s program that helps students to apply for corporate jobs. Thus, this institute is quite quantitative for its PG courses. Delhi School of Economics will teach mathematically to understand the contemporary style of economics. This will help you try for a Ph.D. abroad. JNUs teachings are much simpler and theories with less mathematical writing. If you want to sit for UPSC exams, JNU is really a good option. Therefore, you need to choose wisely, pursuing Ph.D. would only be good if you receive a good piece of advice from your professors or someone who has appropriate experience.Read more

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee structure is highly feasible and 3 years hardly charge for approximately 2-3 lakhs including stay, food, clothing etc. Initially you have to pay approximately 60-70K and then approximately 16 k every six months. Personal expenses are too less as everything is provided by college. You would hardly spend 8-10K on personal expenses in 6 months.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is highly profession oriented. Based on what you are going to do, training is imparted since beginning. Practical knowledge as well as theoritical aspects are given equal importance. Even the current procedures being followed in the industry are told. Final year a specialization is also imparted.
