National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology is an autonomous institute of higher education in the fields of History, Conservation and Museology under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The Institute is a deemed university and is located at Janpath, New Delhi.

National Museum Institute offers MA in three disciplines at postgraduate level and Ph.D. at doctoral level. Application forms can be downloaded from the official website of the university followed by submission at the institute’s address.

  • Admission to MA and Ph.D. programs is offered on the basis of candidates’ performance in the written test (one-hour duration) conducted by the institute followed by an interview.
  • All admission procedures are handled by the Assistant Registrar (Academic). After receiving the applications, the candidates will be short-listed for the written test.
  • 22.5% seats in each program of study are reserved for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST). 27% seats are reserved for OBC (NCL) and 3% seats are reserved for Differently Abled candidates.

National Museum Institute MA Admission 2023

National Museum Institute offers MA in various discipline for the duration of two years. A candidate must hold a Graduate Degree in the relevant discipline with a good academic record with minimum 50% marks. In service personnel working with Central Government/ State Government/ Autonomous organization/ Universities funded by Central or State Government/ NGOs (in that order) with at least 5 years regular service, having the above-required qualification are also eligible to apply.

Admission to MA courses in all the three disciplines is made on the basis of written test followed by an interview. After the evaluation of the answer books, the interview is conducted by a joint Selection Committee.

Key Point:  Knowledge of one classical/foreign language such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Latin, German, French, Italian other than mother tongue will be an additional qualification at the time of admission to MA course.

National Museum Institute also offers doctoral research programs in various fields of Arts, Conservation and Museology. A candidate with a Master's Degree in the relevant discipline or its equivalent from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks can apply for admission to the Ph.D. program.

In service personnel working with Central Government/ State Government/ Autonomous organization/ Universities funded by Central or State Government/ NGOs (in that order) with at least 5 years regular service, having the above-required qualification are also eligible to apply.

The admission to the Ph.D. courses will be made on the basis of the written test and interview conducted by the Research Advisory Committee.
