Ques. Do I need to give CAT to be eligible for other courses offered by IIM Ahmedabad?

Ans. No, not necessarily, there are some courses offered by IIM Ahmedabad that don't require you to sit for the CAT exam. Some of these courses are online courses like Restaurant Design and Management, HR Analytics, Young Entrepreneurs Program, Management and Finance for Experienced Chartered Accountants, etc. There are also some offline classroom courses that have different eligibility criteria, like the 1 year executive MBA (PGPX) program, Ph.D. Program, etc., to be eligible for these programs you don’t need a CAT score, they have their own eligibility criteria like for example, to be able to take the PGPX program a candidate has to appear for GRE exam, must be more than 25 years of age, must have work experience of more than four years after his/her graduation.

Ques. What are the prospects of PhD in Management from IIM Ahmedabad compared to MBA?

Ans. A PhD in management from IIM Ahmedabad takes almost 4-5 years or even more than that. If you want to join a PhD programme solely based on your research interests, it might not be the most lucrative option for you but if you want to go for a teaching profession in the future, you should definitely consider this option. If you want to land a high-end research role in the industry of statistics, data science, machine learning or economics, you should consider going for PhD. The monetary benefits that you receive from this degree will be relatively lesser than any other MBA course, too. While pursuing PhD, you get to choose your own flexible timings for work and everybody research except for the lecture timings. One of the cons of this degree will be that you will get little to no pay for addressing your students’, alums, and faculty members’ queries and being a part of endless meetings at odd hours of the day.

Ques. Which is better, a management PhD from IIT or an FPM from IIM Ahmedabad?

Ans. IITs are more inclined towards research based programmes while IIM Ahmedabad focuses on the holistic development of every individual and the scope is not only limited to research but also to bettering the skills through various activities. The students taking admission in IITs come from technical backgrounds and they audit relevant skills required for further research like electrical engineering, data science, statistics, mathematics, software engineering, etc. This previous knowledge of research based disciplines gives them an edge and further enhances the quality of their research. On the other hand, IIM Ahmedabad provides a holistic schedule to individuals so that they are already exposed to different fields of management. Due to this exposure to management skills, an individual having FPM degree from IIM has a better growth rate than an individual who has studied night and day without any exposure from the rigorous coursework at IITs. So, IIM Ahmedabad makes you a great teacher imparting knowledge in management while IITs prepare you to be an independent researcher. If you can do research based activities without any guidance from professionals, you should definitely consider going for an FPM from IIM Ahmedabad .

Ques. Does UGC approve the FDP in Pedagogy and Research Methods provided by IIM Ahmedabad?

Ans. No, UGC or any other body has not approved this course as of now but IIM Ahmedabad issues a certificate to all the faculty members participating in the course by the end of the programme.

Ques. Is overall 80 percentile really enough to get shortlisted for the interview at IIM Ahmedabad?

Ans. The minimum overall cut-off mentioned for a general category student in IIM Ahmedabad 's official website is 80 percentile, but it doesn’t guarantee that you will surely get shortlisted for the interviews, this cut-off is only to segregate the eligible candidates from the rest of the competition, after segregating the eligible candidates there are many other factors that are taken into consideration before preparing the final list of calls that need to be given out for the interviews. There is also a minimum sectional cut-off of 70 percentile for each of the three sections. IIM Ahmedabad has given students interview calls in the 80-85 percentile in the past, but to get the call at these percentiles you must have a very strong profile. Your overall profile includes your academic profile, that is your 10th, 12th and graduation marks, they might also include your academic achievements too, the college also gives a score for your work experience, you must have 2-3 years of experience to get the maximum points, it also gives points for gender and academic diversity. Considering all these factors, your CAT score and a few other factors, IIM Ahmedabad prepares a composite score through which it decides whether to give a call for an interview to a particular student or not.

Ques. Will I get direct admission in IIM Ahmedabad if I score 100 percentile in CAT?

Ans. There is a good chance that you will get a call for the interviews from IIM Ahmedabad , but it isn’t guaranteed. IIM Ahmedabad gives calls based on a composite score that is calculated by considering your CAT score, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, gender diversity, academic diversity, etc., weightage is allotted to each of these sections and scores are given based on a range of scores. IIM Ahmedabad or any other IIM, for that matter, doesn’t give direct admission solely based on your CAT percentile, the first phase of admission process is giving CAT exam, you must clear the sectional cut-offs and the minimum cut-off to be eligible and considered for the call, you must also get shortlisted to get a shot at the interviews and group discussion process. There have been many cases of students who had scored a perfect 100 percentile in CAT exam but weren’t called or shortlisted for the interviews and group discussions. This shows that a call, let alone a direct admission, at 100 percentile is not guaranteed. So, to increase your chances of getting a call from IIM Ahmedabad , you must score very high in the exam, must also have a very good academic record and good work experience.

Ques. Is there any international scholarship available for non-Indian citizens at IIM Ahmedabad?

Ans. Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation’ (ITEC) Scholarship Programme, Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (SCAAP) and Technical Cooperation Scheme of Colombo Plan (TCS of Colombo Plan) are some of the scholarships available to foreign students. You need to fulfill college admission criteria after appearing for CAT results. Should have atleat 80% in all three subjects of the CAT exam. Preferred if you have an agriculture background. Admission:

Admissions to IIM Ahmedabad PGP MBA a 2-year program are through CAT (Common entrance exam). Eligibility: The candidate must possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks or equivalent. Entrance exam: The application form shall be available on the official IIM website 2 months before the exam. The application fee may vary from year to year. However, it was Rs. 1200 for general category applicants and Rs. 900 for SC/ST/PWD category applicants. Application date starts usually start in August and end by mid-September. Improvement in the admission process: 1. Multiple admission rounds: To provide a chance to attempt CAT multiple (at least twice)a year, this would help the applicant to give the exam at a suitable time. 2. Consider multiple entrance tests like CAT, GMAT, GRE, and XAT to add more diversity 3. To include seats for foreign students on at least some quota basis, this would help in enriching the learning with cross-country diversity.

Ques. What is the detailed process to get admission into IIM Ahmedabad?

    ● Top Answer By Sonal Mishra on 14 Apr 23

The entire admission process at IIM Ahmedabad for the PGP comprises 3 stages. Stage 1:Preliminary Screening The candidates that have cleared the CAT cutoff are shortlisted on the basis of a Composite Score or CS. The composite score is made up of academic rating score (AR) (includes 10th marks, 12th marks, and work experience) and normalized overall CAT score. Or we can say, Composite Score = Application Rating Score + Normalized CAT score Application Rating score is based on class 10th, 12th, and bachelor exams, and work experience scores. Shortlisting for Analytical Writing Test (AWT) & Personal Interview (PI): The candidates with the best academic profiles and CAT scores will be further shortlisted for the next round. The shortlisted candidates will be called for AWT and a personal interview round. Final Selection: At this stage, candidates will be shortlisted across each category (General/ SC/ ST/ NC-OBC/ PwD) separately, based on their Final Composite Score (FCS). The CAT cut-off is mentioned in the table below Category  Cutoff General, EWS 80 NC-OBC, Transgender 75 SC 70 ST 60 PwD (General, EWS   NC-OBC, Transgender, SC) 70 PwD ST 60...Read more

Ques. Is there a possibility to not receive a call from IIM A/B/C, even after scoring 100 percentile in CAT?

    ● Top Answer By Mohommad Kashif on 24 Nov 22

Yes , there is a chance that you may not receive a call from IIM even after scoring 100 percentile in CAT. However, this happens only for IIM Bangalore.  You will receive a call from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta because they choose the top 50 percentilers. Ques. If I do my graduation from IGNOU, will there be any difference in chances of getting admission to IIM Ahmedabad?

    ● Top Answer By Malini Arora on 26 Apr 22

No, there won’t be any difference in chances. CAT accepts IGNOU degrees. So, you will be eligible to take CAT. If you score above IIM Ahmedabad cut off and have a decent profile, you can get admission.  IIM Ahmedabad 2018-20 batch had a student who graduated from IGNOU. So, doing graduation from IGNOU won’t limit your chances of admission. ...Read more

Ques. Can people get admission in IIM A if they retake the CAT while studying at a lower ranked IIM/FMS/XLRI?

    ● Top Answer By Nikhil Jain on 31 May 21

Yes, many of my friends have enrolled at IIM L after completing a year at one of the new IIMs. Your only requirement is a strong profile, a high CAT score, and a compelling reason for quitting your current business school.  However, the opportunity cost should be considered while making this decision. This option is only practical if you come from the second generation of a new IIM or a 3 tier B-school. But you should not leave FMS or XLRI for IIM A after studying for a year in these universities. Since the opportunity cost would be too great in this circumstance. Never consider leaving because the two years you spend there will change your perception. Newly established IIMs may, without a doubt, admit students with a lower percentile. But this is not an indication of inferior quality....Read more

Ques. What should I do as an undergrad to get into IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore or IIM Calcutta?

    ● Top Answer By Samiksha Sharma on 21 Nov 22

As an undergraduate, you must complete the following tasks: Better 10th and 12th-grade point averages, at least above 80% in both. Maintain your academic focus. Choose a non-engineering subject for your undergraduate studies. It will help your profile. Attempt to score above the 99th percentile on the CAT. If you want, you can do coaching during your undergrad. Enhance your communication and writing abilities. This will be beneficial in WAT and GD/PI. If you want, you can join Toastmasters or start a blog. If you want, try to participate in some extracurricular activities. This will not improve your IIM chances (unless you have a national-level certificate), but it will add some vibrancy to your profile. Activities can range from being a member of a club or placement cell to creating your own YouTube channel. Perform some internships or work as a freelancer on a project. It will provide fodder for conversation in interviews....Read more

Ques. Do SRCC students get into IIM Ahmedabad?

    ● Top Answer By Utsav Kamra on 21 Dec 22

Though Shri Ram College of Commerce has high cut-offs for admission at the graduation level, it is incorrect to assume that all SRCC students who pass the CAT exam will be admitted to IIM Ahmadabad. It is important to remember that work experience is highly valued at IIM Ahmadabad. Many students from other colleges apply to prestigious institutes. Nothing can stop you from getting into IIM Ahmedabad if you are determined to do so. So remember that regardless of where you studied, you can still get into IIM Ahmedabad. ...Read more

Ques. Is it advisable to settle on JBIMS, if one only aimed for IIM's?

    ● Top Answer By Ashish Pai on 20 Feb 23

Comparing JBIMS with IIMs is highly unjustified as IIMs are way ahead of JBIMS or FMS even if we consider the ROI. They are unique in many aspects such as IIM ABC and ISB is the only B-schools that offer Investment banking profiles in placement. Even if we look at other profiles, it’s easy to infer that they are much superior in terms of quality than the ones offered at JBIMS.  Being a pass out of IIMs or ISB, you have an upper hand in the higher spectrum of one’s career, i.e, leadership roles. JBIMS or FMS lack the general ambiance and culture of a typical B School due to a lack of residential and campus facilities. The peer quality of IIMS and ISB are much better than JBIMS whose gender ratio, diversity, and competitive exam are very one-dimensional. The only significant aspect of JBIMS is the ROI which when negated makes JBIMS as mediocre as SP Jain and MDI. The placement statistics of JBIMS are much similar to that of new IIMs or average B Schools like MDI, and SP Jain. They are in no way in comparison to the top IIMs even with batch sizes as small as 120. So one should choose JBIMS or FMS over IIM only if one wants to spend low fees, take no loans, or pursue MBA in Mumbai or Delhi....Read more

Ques. What advice would you give to an 11th-standard boy for getting admitted to IIM Ahmedabad?

    ● Top Answer By Hardik Nagar on 23 Dec 22

You must keep an open mind. Be adaptable. You do not always get what you wish for. You must sometimes compromise. So, take a seat. Stop worrying and get on with your life. Your preferences, likes, and passions do not always remain constant. They can change, and if they do, be open to it. Do what you believe is best for you right now, but don't be stubborn....Read more
