Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Computer Science) From HPU, Shimla

Latest updates: Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla is inviting applications from eligible candidates for admission to its entrance-based MTech program in Computer Science (CS) for the academic session 2023-24. Interested candidates can apply till April 29, 2023.

To apply for HPU MTech CS Admission 2023, general category candidates have to pay INR 1000/- and reserved category candidates have to pay INR 500 as an application fee. The online application form for admission is available on the official university website at hpuniv.ac.in.

Himachal Pradesh University, also abbreviated as HPU is a non-profit state university, established in the year 1970. The M.Tech department has been in effect since 2013. It is a NAAC-accredited college. It has been ranked in the band of the top 151-200 colleges by NIRF for three consecutive years, i.e., 2020, 2019, and 2018. 

It offers a full-time post-graduation M. Tech programme in Computer Science for the academic period ranging two years. The course spans four semesters. 

Candidates must have passed a Master's Degree with a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for the SC/ST category), or have an equivalent Grade point. The admission is done through an examination conducted by Himachal Pradesh University.

Himachal Pradesh University M.Tech. Eligibility criteria 

• Candidates, who have passed a Master's degree with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent Grade point, in Mathematics/Physics/Electronics/Computer Application (MCA)/Computer Science/Information Technology/4-years Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology.

OR

• Apart from the above mentioned criteria, any examination of a foreign university, which is recognised as equivalent to securing a minimum of 55% in a Master’s degree can also be considered as a criterion for eligibility. The equivalency of the examination is decided either by an equivalence committee of the respective university, or by Association of Indian Universities.

Selection Criteria

Admission to M.Tech (Computer Science) is done through an examination conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University.

How to Apply?

1. Click on “PG/UG/Ph.D./Certificate Diploma” to access the list of programmes. 
2. Choose the programme and click on the programme name. 
3. Online Entrance Application form should have the following information: a) Personal Information b) Education and Document Details c) Application Summary d) Payment detail e) Reference number and Application form 
4. Please fill in the personal information first. 
5. After filling in the personal information click on the save button at the end of the page.
6. The system will generate the unique Registration number along with the password. Applicants are advised to note the same. 
7. The unique Registration number along with the password will be sent to the email and the entered mobile number. The Registration number should be noted for all future references. 
8. After that, you can continue and fill in the other required information or log out and log in again with the unique Registration number along with the password. 
9. After that Click on “PG/UG/Ph.D./Certificate Diploma” and click on “Click here for Student Login” 
10. Login with a unique Registration number along with the password and you will get all the information submitted earlier on the personal information page. 
11. Applicants are required to fill in all information required in different sectors like Education and Documents details. 
12. Fill in Education and document detail and upload related documents. The photo and signature uploaded should be as per specifications, kindly refer to section (A) at the start of the document. 
13. To save the data please click on the 'Continue and Save' button at the bottom of each screen. 
14. For making Application Fees Payments, you can use the online mode or the Challan mode.

Documents Required

1- Scanned copy of the applicant's recent photograph with the following specifications. 

• Photograph should be formal. 
• Photograph must be a passport-size colour picture. 
• Photograph must be taken directly facing the camera. 
• Photograph should have no shadows and red eyes. 
• Maximum size 100 KB. 
• Photo format should be jpg or jpeg only. 
• File name should not exceed a maximum of 10 characters. 

2- Scanned copy of the applicant's signature with following specifications.

• Applicant should sign in black ink on white paper and get the signatures scanned. 
• The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person. 
• Maximum size 100 KB. 
• Scanned signature format should be jpg or jpeg only. 
• File name should not exceed a maximum of 10 characters. 

3- Scanned copy of applicant's Father/Mother's signature with the following specifications. 

• Applicant’s Father/Mother should sign in black ink on white paper and get the signatures scanned. 
• The signatures must be signed only by the applicant’s Father/Mother and not by any other person. 
• Maximum size 100 KB. 
• Scanned signature format should be jpg or jpeg only. 
• File name should not exceed a maximum of 10 characters 

4- Upload documents with the following specifications. 

• Applicant should upload only one document (mark sheet/certificate) in black ink on white paper and get the signatures scanned. 
• The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person. 
• Maximum size 2MB. 
• Scanned signatures format should be PDF only. 
• File name should not exceed a maximum of 10 characters 50

5- Create an email account if you already don’t have one. 

6- You must give a mobile number in basic detail. If you don't have a mobile number, please enter your guardian's mobile number. 

7- All mandatory fields are marked with a red star.

Himachal Pradesh University M.Tech. Entrance Exam Pattern

Admission to M.Tech (Computer Science) is done through an examination conducted by the Himachal Pradesh University. It has the following highlights:

• The duration of the entrance is 3 hours.
• The entrance test shall be of 200 MCQ-type questions of one mark each.
• The contents of the examination shall be as follows :

• The minimum passing marks in the entrance test shall be 35% i.e. 70 marks out of a total of 200.
• There are a total of 18 seats. 5 seats are reserved for in-service candidates.

Note : The Candidates who have qualified GATE/NET/SLET in Computer Science or Engineering will be given 20% extra of the marks obtained in the entrance test for calculating the merit for the purpose of admission.
