Annexure 1: Sh. Parmahansa Yogananda Scholarship

Shoolini University has instituted a one-time scholarship of INR 50,000 to commemorate the contributions made by Shri Paramahansa Yogananda, an Indian monk, who stayed in the United States for 32 years for propagating the advanced yogic techniques amongst the Americans. Yogananda was born in the same year (1893) in Calcutta, the year when Swami Vivekananda delivered his famous lecture in the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago on Vedic Religion. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. Yogananda appeared on the home page of the International Day of Yoga. In suggesting June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India had said that “the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.” Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action, restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. The contributions made by Yogananda are unparalleled and the same has been recognized globally.

The recipients for the Scholarships will be selected on the basis of short questions, short answers, right or wrong from the 100 questions selected from the famous book ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’. Those who are interested to participate in the Scholarship test may obtain the book free of cost from the office of Vice-Chancellor. The scholarship test will be held on campus and details will be shared as and when available. The students of the undergraduate program at Shoolini University are eligible to appear.
