Ques. Which one is better for pure sciences and cosmology IISER, NISER or IISC?

● Top Answer By Meghdeepa Mondal on 22 Oct 21

Ans. First, you should note that none of these institutes don’t offer a degree in Cosmology. Yes, all three have courses in Cosmology but these courses are extremely hard. NISER and IISER are comparable. Both are great institutes with remarkable statistics. But in the current scenario, IISc is the best option. Here are the reasons why. It has a better faculty base. Much better research environment. A far more established alumni base. It also has better recognition globally.  If you are thinking about doing a UG course then IISc is the best option. It stands out because of the degree they deliver that is BS. It is a four-year-long course during which you can play around with your topic and narrow it down more for your BS thesis. Many alumni of IISc even co-authored research papers before their 4th year. Arnab Rai Chowdhury, Tarun Deep Saini are to name a few. IISc is best if you are certain that you want to study Cosmology.  However, IISc is not interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary like IISERs. So, if you are not dead sure about Cosmology and need to explore to understand it well then IISER K is a better option.  If you are considering these institutes for your Masters then IISc will be the best option. You will get to meet people from various backgrounds. The BS by research at IISc can help you get into IIA.  Consider NISER only if you are not getting IISc, IISER-K, IISER-P, IIST B.Tech (Physical Science).Read more

Ques. What is the differnce between IISc and IISER?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 05 Oct 21

Ans. Among IISc and IISER, the former is the better option.  IISc is the oldest science institute in India and it is recognized worldwide.  At IISc, most of the faculties are top researchers and highly experienced. Whereas, faculties in IISER are comparatively young and have less experience.  IISc takes admission on the basis of JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, NEET, and KVPY. Whereas, IISER takes admission on the basis of JEE Advanced, KVPY, and SCB (IAT). Admissions at IISER are not as competitive as IISc.  However, the research culture at IISER is quite good. If you have the option to join IISc, you should go for it, otherwise, IISER is also a good option. Read more

Ques. Which is better for a Ph.D in machine learning, ISI Kolkata or IISc Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 17 Sept 21

Ans. My sister did her INEA Summer Research Internship in Machine Intelligence unit from ISI Kolkata. Here’s what her first-hand experience says about the course and the institution. You will get the opportunity to learn among leading Researchers in the field of machine learning who are INAE, IAS, IEEE fellows. You also find people doing research in computational biology as well, which is a highly specialized field not everyone is familiar with! You will enjoy high-quality research while interacting with the Ph.D. students here and the environment is quite friendly. IISc remains the top research institute in India but according to one of my friends who is doing a Ph.D. from IISc, it is quite strenuous and it takes a lot of time and research to come up with an excellent thesis. He is stuck with his Ph.D. thesis just because his mentor is mostly unavailable due to his busy schedule. It can prove to be a big problem because most professors In IISc are busy with their international-level research and conferences most of the time. Also, they are hardly satisfied with the work you come up with. So, you might not get enough guidance as you expect to finish your Ph.D. Both IISc and ISI Kolkata are premier institutes that are well recognized and well-funded. So you wouldn't have any problem in your career with either of these two institutes. Read more

Ques. My daughter is studying biotechnology in Vignan University in Guntur. She wants her internship in the IISC in Bangalore. Is it possible? If possible how to apply?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 09 Sept 21

Ans. It's a much sought-after degree at Vignan University. My brother pursued the same and did his MS later. There are two ways to get an internship in the IISC Bangalore.  First, make an application to the Indian Academy of Sciences Summer Research Fellowship program and choose IISC in the institute preference option.  Second, simply email a professor and try to convince them to let your daughter intern at the IISC.  My brother chose the second option to get his preferred spot. Read more

Ques. Which one will be a better choice for an MSc in maths, IISc, ISI Kolkata, or IIT KGP?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 03 Sept 21

Ans. It would be better to focus on colleges that offer Mathematics as their core and you must keep technological institutions aside. Thus, IIT Kharagpur should not be considered. Talking about IISc and ISI Kolkata, both are research-oriented institutions and are equally good for taking up MSc in mathematics. But when we talk Maths in specific, then it would be better if you look at ISI Kolkata as your ultimate option.  The institute is specifically oriented towards studies related to Mathematics. You will be given great exposure at ISI Kolkata.Read more

        Admission :

Selection for interview is on the basis of MTech score, valid gate scores and selection for course based on performance in technical interview. Basics are important. They can ask according requirements of faculty with seat for admission. They test your math and basic of the branch or stream you want to work.

        Remarks :

This is the best option available in India for PhD, MTech, BSc. College management is transparent and good.

        Admission :

I appeared for GATE exam and secured AIR 235 in 2019. Then IISc has separate test for each course. Once you qualify that you will be interviewed by professors on the various technical concepts. Besides they will also see your approach. Once they find you good you are in.

        Remarks :

The managing authorities are really well, and in accordance with the student's requirements.
