Ques. I will be shortly completing my B.Tech from NIT Calicut. I have a CGPA of 9. Is it better for me to join for M.Tech at IIT or MS from a foreign university?

● Top Answer By Keshav Jindal on 26 Oct 21

Ans. It depends on your interests and your financial background. There are many reputed institutes in India where you can do your post-graduation. However, some institutes in the USA and Germany have an international reputation because of their technology and facilities. That is the reason why many graduates choose to do their MS from abroad. The availability of great placement opportunities is another reason. However, before deciding on anything, research the market trends in India as well as abroad to get an idea of the placement opportunities available. Read more

Ques. What is the dress code of girls in NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 13 Sept 21

Ans. There is no particular dress code for the classes. However, there are other necessities every student has to follow otherwise. The regulations include wearing shirts and denim for the labs of the electrical department.  Girls of the class are asked to go by the same rule, including rolling their hair up and wearing recommended shoes. While working in labs, lab coats are a must.  In any case whatsoever, since it is an educational premise, every student is generally asked not to wear dresses that can be deemed inappropriate.Read more

Ques. What are the major holidays/breaks at NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 13 Sept 21

Ans. NIT Calicut equally puts preference to most of the major festivals shared by different kinds of religion.  Whether it is Christmas, Onam, Id, Diwali, or other major festivals, NIT Calicut usually offers a one-day holiday to students. But, since the majority of students at the institute belong from the South Indian area, Onam is naturally the biggest festival. It is one of the major and biggest celebrations at NIT Calicut. Other than that, students also obtain holidays for the festival of Dussehra.  Apart from festivals, students usually get holidays by the end of their semesters, on national holidays, or on national emergencies, if any. Read more

Ques. Are the things really happening in NIT Calicut that are supposed to be?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 13 Sept 21

Ans. One of my cousins is a recent graduate of NIT Calicut and here are some of the changes he witnessed on the campus. He mentions that the MHRD of the current government is doing a good job of bringing positive changes.  Color-coded Trash Bins: It was recently inaugurated by the institute and will result in keeping the institute immaculate and tidy. Satisfaction Survey From TEQIP II: This survey is the connector between students and the MHRD. Through this survey, you can report complaints against the administration for any cause they particularly do not support. Youth Exchange Program: It is a special privilege for the students of NITs and IITs. For better information, you should refer to the updated notice announced by the Students Affairs Council on the NIT Calicut Facebook page. The National Expo: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has been founded only for the students of NITs across the country to attend the India-US Summit and Knowledge Expo. This is the only opportunity when you can directly take up your project to multiple industrialists. Nalanda Library: NIT Calicut’s Nalanda Digital library has once again begun getting back to working condition.  Overall, several things at the institute have gradually begun to take up a good shape.Read more

Admission :

I got admission in this college through JEE exams. Those who passed JEE Main exam can choose this college. Admission process usually happens in the month of August. It is a 3-days process. They will evaluate your entrance exam result & plus-two documents. Based on this, they will give you a token for further process including hostel admission. Fresh year students will be admitted to A-hostel.

Remarks :

Gender equality is a small problem there in the campus. Course fee structure is also a problem for students. Some branches lack faculties for subjects. But overall it is a very good institution.

Admission :

The college shortlists students on the basis of their CAT scores, previous academic records, and work experience. Interviews are conducted in the month of March-April in for metro cities. The school of management studies-SOMS, began in 2009 and is one of the most prestigious departments of the otherwise technically oriented institute. The faculties are well experienced and there are lot of opportunities to leverage proximity with IIM Kozhikode. Placement facilities are top notch and enterprises such as TCS, Federal Bank, Indigo paints, South Indian Bank along with several other companies have picked up students from SOMS recent years.

Remarks :

The college management is greatly helpful. There is no bureaucracy and things happen quick and fast. Unless other government institutions, NIT Calicut is digitalized and highly modern.
