International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, is an autonomous institute established in the year 1956 by the Government of India in a joint partnership with the UN and Tata Trust. IIPS runs seven academic departments and offers postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral courses and fellowships. The courses offered are M.A., MSc., M.Phil., Ph.D., Post Doctoral Fellowship. Admissions are conducted on the basis of the Entrance exam conducted by the Institute.

IIPS offers 3 postgraduate courses, 1 M.Phil course, 1 Ph.D. course, and post-doctoral fellowship. In addition to full-time regular courses, the institute also offers part-time distance education courses. International Institute for Population Sciences Admissions

  • Admission to M.A. and M.Sc courses is done on the basis of the online entrance test conducted by the institute. 
  • Admission to M.P.S and M.Phil course is done on the basis of the online entrance exam followed by a personal interview. 
  • Admission to a full-time Ph.D. course is done on the basis of the online entrance exam, writing proposal, and personal interview. While for part-time Ph.D. admissions, the institute conducts an offline test followed by a personal interview.  
  • Selection to Post Doctoral Fellowship is done on the basis of the presentation of the research proposal by the candidate and the personal interview. 

How to apply?

  • Candidates can apply for the desired course via the application link available on the institute's official website. 
  • Before applying, candidates must go through the admission bulletin available on the institute’s website. 
  • Fee for online application form is rupees 1000 for UR category students, rupees 500 for OBC and EWS category students, and rupees 250 for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PWD category. 
  • Post completion of the online application, candidates must send a hard-copy of the online application form along with required documents to the Academic Section Incharge. The postal address for the same is mentioned in the admission bulletin.

International Institute for Population Sciences Scholarships

  • For M.A., M.Sc., M.Phil, M.P.S., and P.hD. courses, the Government of India Fellowship is offered to the students. 
  • M.A, M.Sc, and M.P.S. students will be awarded a sum of rupees 5,000 per month under the fellowship. There are 50 seats available in each course. 
  • M.Phil students will be awarded a sum of rupees 6,000 per month under the fellowship. There are 50 seats available in the course.

  • Library: Institute library has a huge collection of books, seminar papers, indexed articles, Ph.D. theses, online and printed journals, and e-books. IPS’ library houses more than 85 thousand books.   
  • Smart classrooms: The college has 6 smart classrooms with modern technological facilities such as computers, projectors, and other audio-visual aids. 
  • Hostel & Mess: The institute has 2 hostels of its own. Each hostel room has an attached bathroom facility and basic furnishings. In addition to the mess facility, a common kitchen place is also available in each hostel building. Several indoor games facilities and gym are also available in the hostel. 
  • Sports: Facilities for indoor games such as table tennis and chess, outdoor playgrounds, and gym are available in the institute. 
  • Medical facility: Medical facility and health counselors are available on the campus. 
  • Seminar Hall: For events, workshops, and interactive sessions, an air-conditioned seminar hall with a seating capacity of 45 is available in the campus.

Ques. Are there any Hostel facitliies provided for girls?

Ans. Yes, there are two separate Hostels available for both boys and girls. The hostels are also equipped with all the required amenities such as 24/7 power backup, security, study area, etc.

Ques. Are any events organized in the campus? 

Ans. Yes, the institute organizes several cultural and academic events. Some of the activities include Local theatrical arts, Fine arts such as literature, music, painting, and cinema, Cultural responses to globalization, and Functional knowledge of local and foreign languages.  

Ques. Is a Wi-Fi facility available on the campus ? 

Ans. Yes, IIPS campus is Wi-Fi enabled. Students are also provided with excellent computer lab facilities that can be used for all the academic and research purposes. 

Ques. Can I apply for more than one course? 

Ans. Yes, candidates can apply for more than one course by filling separate application forms. Candidates are required to properly specify the desired course on each application form. 

Ques. Is there any concession in fee for SC category students? 

Ans. Fee for all category students is the same. There are Government concessions provided to applicants of the masters courses.
