Ques. Which should be preferred, CS at VNIT or EEE at NIT Surathkal?
● Top Answer By Monika on 07 Jul 21
Ans.You are comparing two different branches; Computer (CSE) and Electrical (EEE). If you are naturally inclined towards a particular branch, then you should choose it no matter the institute. If you are not sure about the branch then let me share some facts I got to know while researching about the institutes.
NIRF Engineering Ranking 2020 – VNIT Nagpur is ranked 27 while NIT Surathkal is ranked 13.
Academics – In this regard both are equal. Some professors are good and some are really bad.
Extra-Curricular Activities – NIT Surathkal is way better than VNIT Nagpur. You will always find some activity happening on the campus. VNIT Nagpur does not have any such activities being conducted regularly.
Campus location – VNIT Nagpur is actually better than NIT Surathkal. Although the Surathkal beach which is right beside the college looks good in photos, the same cannot be said in person. The VNIT Nagpur campus on the other hand is clean and green.
Workshops – At VNIT Nagpur most of the workshops organized by the clubs are paid while at NIT Surathkal most of them were free and open to all.
The following table shows a brief insight on relevant facts for both institutes:
CS at VNIT
EEE at NIT Surathkal
Accenture, Deloitte, Wipro, Dell, etc.
TCS, Phillips, Havells, nVidia, etc.
Now that you have seen the comparison you can choose which one you like based on your needs and expectations. If you want then you can also make your decision based on the placement reports.Read more
Ques. In terms of placements, should I go for the IIIT in Allahabad or the VNIT for an MTech in CSE?
● Top Answer By Admin on 17 Mar 21
Ans.When speaking in terms of placement records, IIIT Allahabad is known only for B.Tech. However, M.Tech at the same institution tends to not get great offers. In fact, most companies do not permit M.Tech students from IIITA to sit for specific interviews.
Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Hashedin, Morgan Stanley didn’t allow M.Tech students to sit for the interviews one particular year. That is one reason behind why IIIT, Allahabad does not make the placement stats clearly open in a branch-specific manner.
You, as a student, should prefer M.Tech at NIT Nagpur. Mentioned below are the statistics of M.Tech placements of VNIT Nagpur.
Students Placed (PG)
Amazon, Directi, DE Shaw, Zomato, Samsung R&D, etc.
It is important to note that MTech IT (i.e., Intelligent Systems) is very well known at IIITA. If you are choosing to do Intelligent Systems at IIITA, then you will not regret that decision. You definitely will have the chance to sit for every company interview. However, if you do not get Intelligent Systems, then opting to go for NIT Nagpur is highly recommended.
In terms of placement, the preference order of branches are as briefed below:
Intelligent systems, IIITA> CSE, VNIT Nagpur> Advanced computing, NIT Bhopal> Information security, NIT Bhopal> Human-computer interaction, IIITA> Cyber Law IIITA> Software Engineering IIITA> Wireless communication IIITA.Read more
Ques. How is IIITM Gwalior for a PhD in CS/IT? Will it be better than VNIT Nagpur (taking the research in CS into consideration)?
● Top Answer By Nishkarsh Bansal on 15 Sept 20
Ans.The Doctoral Program at IIITM Gwalior is one of the best in Gujarat. There is no time restriction but usually, the program is completed in 2-5 years.
For a P.hD in CS or IT, the student must have achieved a relevant Masters's degree along with some work experience as an added advantage.
Candidates must be a 1st Class degree holder or its equivalent CGPA holder in both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
Candidates are also required to qualify for GATE or have a GATE scorecard before applying for the course.
Candidates pursuing P.hD programs are entitled to stipends depending on norms set by MHRD and subject to fulfillment of academic qualifications put up by the university from time to time.
The professors at IIITM are experts in research and students can verify their profiles through the IIITM website. They receive the best students in science for research which is an important plus point for students looking to pursue P.hD.
Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology or VNIT, Nagpur also offers P.hD programs in Engineering, Architecture Planning, and Applied Sciences. It is a private university which selects candidates for its Doctoral programs based on merit.
For applying at VNIT, students are required to have a master’s degree in their respective fields and GATE scores.
Students who have qualified for Government Fellowships like DST and CSIR fellowship can also submit their applications without GATE scores.
VNIT itself offers a fellowship to select students depending on their means and merit.
Comparing between the two universities, it can be seen that both have their benefits and competencies. An important factor in pursuing P.hD is the kind of research professor and peers that are available since they affect the overall environment of the course. Both universities provide an excellent environment and assistance for Doctoral Programs. Students can go for further research by looking into the professor’s backgrounds and scrutinize the research projects undertaken by alumni of the university.Read more
