IIM being autonomous institutions have increased the fees, being inconsiderate despite the covid situtation

Admission :

After appearing for CAT, you are shortlisted on the basis of your profile for the next round i.e. GD/PI. This time, because of different circumstances, we had online PI and no GD. IIM Shillong gives great weight-age to diversity, So if you are not GEM, IIM shillong is an easy convert.

"One of the best college in Shillong"

Admission :

My admission was done on the basis of the CAT entrance exam. And then, I fill out the application form and attended the group discussion which was conducted by the college then went through the personal interview.

Placement Experience :

The placement in our college was pretty decent, more than 90% of the students were placed. Companies like Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Cognizant, Dell, Flipkart, etc. visited our college for placement. They also provide internships with Rs.10000 per month.

"IIM Shillong - Campus in Clouds"

Remarks :

Academics is just one part of the MBA institute. Networking is another. Because of its small batch size, you get to know all the people well. Also Shillong is a beautiful place to live, thanks to its weather. As the college is situated on a hill, you can actually see clouds in the campus, and hence the name. There are many tourist destinations nearby which can be visited to blow off the steam.

Ques. With 84% in 10th, 79% in 12th, a 7.89 CGPA and 3 yrs of work experience, am I eligible for the IIM Shillong and IIM Udaipur? I am a GEM.

Ans. You are eligible for both IIMs. Your academics, on the other hand, are mediocre, which can work against you. IIM Udaipur will contact you solely on the basis of your CAT score. IIM Shillong, on the other hand, may or may not. IIM-S has stringent admission requirements. My only piece of advice is to ignore everything else and concentrate on getting a high CAT percentile, preferably above 99.5, and you'll almost certainly get into one of the IIMs. With a balanced sectional and good percentile in CAT, you should get calls from both these institutes. Also, prepare well for the interview. The interview part of admission is the most difficult, so try to be confident as much as you can. If you are confident that you will get a great percentile in CAT, you can also apply for FMS.Read more

Ans. Having gone through reviews of different colleges, I came across these. And here is what I have to share about them. IIM Shillong (IIMS) and Shailesh J. The Mehta School of Management (SJMSOM) is better than IIM Trichy. It is tough to decide between IIM S and SJMSOM as both institutes were established long back. IIMS has however shown growth in a short period of time making it better than SJMSOM. Also, the IIM tag works better with non-IIMS colleges which are not in the top 15 lists. The placement of both the institutes is good. But if you want to experience an educational environment then you must choose IIMS. In the following table, you will get information about IIM Shillong, SJMSOM, and IIM Trichy. Category IIM Shillong SJMSOM IIM Tricky Recruiters Adani Group, Aditya Birla Group, Adobe, Advaita Capital, etc. Axis Bank, Bank of America, Citibank, Fidelity, etc. Bosch, Cognizant, Crisil, Dabur, etc. Average CTC INR 19.17 LPA INR 28.8 LPA INR 17.50 LPA Median CTC INR 17.50 LPA INR 20.8 LPA INR 14.96 LPA Highest CTC INR 32 LPA INR 32.4 LPA INR 25 LPA Therefore, you can prefer IIMS or SJMSOM over IIM Trichy. Ques. Is it good to do Executive MBA from IIM Shillong being a mechanical engineer having 5 years of experience in manufacturing industry?

Ans. An Executive MBA from any IIM will be worth it. Since you have 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, it’ll be an advantage for you. Unless you are keen to learn in this field you should not opt for IIM Shillong as the placement percentage in the manufacturing sector is as low as 13%. It is advisable to look into other colleges with a higher percentage of placements in the manufacturing sector. Some of the colleges with a better percentage of placements are given below. National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE),Mumbai: It is one of the leading institutes in this league. The programs offered here are PGDIM (Industrial Management), PGDISEM (Industrial Safety and Environmental Management), PGDMM and (Manufacturing Management), PGDPM (Project Management). NITIE has a decent campus with the tallest B-school hostel. They have several research centers like Communication Studies, Centre for Supply Chain Management, and Centre for SME. For PGDMM and PGDIE courses NITE accepts GATE scores while for PGDIM and PGISEM courses CAT scores are accepted. The criterion for admission to these courses is that the applicants need to be engineers. Once the exams are conducted, candidates are shortlisted for GD & PI. Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad: The institute offers PGPM, PGPM (Working Professionals), PGPM (Senior Executives), PGPM (Family Business), FPM, and Executive Education programs. They have a huge campus with extraordinary architecture. The facilities provided to its students here are exceptional as it is a reputed B-school in India. If your perspective and understanding do not get along these lines and if you are not interested in these core basics and the eastern market, there is no point in wasting your two years in this course.
