North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) was established on 19th July 1973 by an Act of Parliament. The University is situated in Shillong, Meghalaya. NEHU has two campuses, one main campus in Shillong located at Mawkynroh, Umshing and the Tura campus located at Chandmari, Tura. The University has been given a 4-star status by NAAC. The University offers various UG, PG and research-based programs to the students.

 Selection Criteria

B.A, B.Sc

The applicant must have done 10+2 with minimum required marks.

Merit-based                        

B.Tech

The candidate should have done 10+2 in Science stream or its equivalent with 45% marks in PCM taken together from a recognized board.

A valid score in JEE-Main.

B.Arch

The candidate must have scored 50% marks in 10+2 with PM & Chemistry/Computer Science from a recognized board.

A valid score in National Aptitude Test of Architecture (NATA).

B.Ed (Special Education)

To get admission into the program, the applicant must have done Graduation in any Discipline.

M.A

The applicant must have done Graduation with 50% marks to be eligible for the admission.

MBA, MTTM

The candidate must have done Graduation in any discipline with 50% marks from a recognized institution.

Valid MAT score by All India Management Association, Personal interview and group discussion.

MCA

The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree with 50% marks and must have Mathematics as one of the subjects.

Qualifying examination and the entrance test.

Master of Law (LL.M)

The candidates must have secured 55% marks in LL.B or its equivalent examination.

M.Ed

The candidates should have obtained 50% marks in relevant Bachelor’s degree to get admission to the program.

Key point: The University gives 5% relaxation to the students who belong to the SC/ST category.

NEHU M.Phil and Ph.D. Admission

The University offers M.Phil program in English, Political Science and History. The applicants for the M.Phil program are required to score 55% marks or with a minimum of ‘B’ grade (CGPA) in the 7 point UGC scale at the Master’s degree level.

The University offers Ph.D. in various disciplines like Economics, Commerce, History, Political Science, Hindi, English, Hindi, Education etc. To get admission to the Ph.D. program, the candidate must possess Master’s degree with 55% marks in the concerned subject.

NEHU Scholarship/Fellowship

 Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) scholarships are awarded to those candidates who have cleared NET and have obtained 55% marks in the Master’s degree. NEHU also awards postgraduate scholarships to those candidates who have passed Honors degrees with minimum 55% marks.

Key point: The candidate is not eligible for any scholarship if he is in full-time employment.

NEHU Student’s Aid Fund

Financial aid is given to poor and meritorious students under Students’ Aid Fund. The aid-fund includes payment of tuition fees, examination fees, purchase of textbooks, stationery expenses, hostel charges and emergency medical expenses and other genuine charges.

Other Facilities

Accommodation- At the Shillong campus, there are total 22 hostels to accommodate students. All hostels provide mess facility and well-equipped rooms.

Library- The University has the Central library at the Shillong campus. The library facilitates students with a tremendous volume of books and journals.

Transport Facility- NEHU has its own transport system to facilitate students. The students have to pay the nominal fee to avail this facility.

Counselling and Placement Cell- The University has Counselling and Placement Cell (CPC), it provides career guidance and counsels students. The cell assists students by inviting national and international companies to provide training.
