Presently, Sikkim University offers 5 Undergraduate, 32 Postgraduate, and 28 M.Phil/ Ph.D. programs under its stable. Sikkim University courses include BA, MA, MBA, B.Com, M.Com, B.Sc, M.Sc, etc. Admissions to all of these courses are based on the merit obtained in CUET exam. Sikkim University Admissions

Admissions at Sikkim University are either merit-based or are a first-come-first-served basis. Admission to courses like B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, B.A (Hons) are based on CUET UG scores. While admission to courses like MBA, MA, M.Com, MCA is provided by the merit list curated based on 12th as well as graduation marks and CUET PG. The shortlisted students are followed up by an interview, to finalize and conclude their admission.

  • For admissions in respective Ph.D. program degree, students who have qualified with UGC- JRF, CSIR-JRF, GATE / SLET, or MPhil are exempted from all the written exams.
  • For admissions in B.Sc Geology, a student needs to qualify his 12th exams with a minimum of 45% in the science stream.
  • For admissions in B.Sc Music, a student needs to qualify for his 12th exams with a minimum of 40%.
  • Admissions in MCA are based on the merit list curated after combining the 12th marks as well as the graduation performance of an individual. A student needs to score 50% marks in class 12th, with mathematics being one of the major subjects.
  • Students who want to pursue an MA in Chinese have to pass out BA in Chinese before, with at least 50%

Students who wish to appear for the provided courses in Sikkim University can get admissions in the following ways: 

  • The application form is accepted through online mode only there is no offline mode available to get admission into the Sikkim University.
  • Candidates need to register themselves on the official website of the University.
  • Applicants need to fill in all the necessary information on the official website related to qualifications and personal details.
  • After filling in all the required information and uploading the important documents like photograph and signature the candidate needs to move to the payment page.
  • 200 fee is charged for undergraduate as well as postgraduate students in general and OBC caste, while hundred rupees fees are charged for the same program for SC and ST caste.
  • The Fee can be paid through online mode only by using any debit or credit card, Net Banking.
  • A candidate can even apply for more than one course or program by filling in more than one form.
  • Candidates can download their admit cards spontaneously on to the official website of Sikkim University. It is important enough to carry your admit card on to the time of your exam in your respective centers.

There has been no official circular provided by the Sikkim University as far as the admissions for undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs are concerned. The next steps regarding the admission procedure and the tentative dates would be notified as soon as the university states it.

However seeing the previous dates it is expected, the University will regulate its admission process in April/May.

Sikkim University Placements

The Sikkim University has a separate placement wing that takes care of all the companies and placements occurring all over the campus. The college came up with many great placement records and offers for MBA students as well. Almost all the companies which have their offices in Sikkim have tie UPS with the university and provide great packages to the deserving candidates. The placement wing even works tremendously well to provide internships to students.

The overall placement for the MBA department last year was 98%, almost every student who appeared for the placements, got jobs in reputed firms and industries. Many of those students got the jobs which they dreamt of, almost 50% of students studying got internships in different companies provided by the college. The highest package offered was 8 lacs per annum and the lowest offered was INR 1.5 LPA.

Even the placement stats available for the Masters in English are decent enough. Many top companies like Cipla, Zydus, Axis bank, etc visited the campus to provide offers to students. Although the department is not considered to be one of the technical and cold ones, still managed to get internships with stipends as high as INR 15 to 20 thousand per month. The placement wing worked hard and provided many job offers with a median salary of 2.8 lacs per annum in the particular industry.

Sikkim University Scholarship

As the university comes under the Central Government it has some great scholarships, to help the needy. To get a scholarship and funding in Sikkim University one needs to score at least 55% (50% for SC, ST, and OBC) in the qualifying examination for their previous semester. The total family income for the desired candidate should be less than 60,000 per annum, and the candidate should not be receiving any external funding for a scholarship from any other source.

Sikkim University Facilities

  • Library: Sikkim University has one of the most modern libraries all over the country. It has some great infrastructure and good web-enabled automated services, total collection of the library is about 47000 printed books. The library subscribes to almost 220 foreign as well as Indian journals.
  • Hostels: The University has eight hostels, of which 4 are allocated for boys, while the other four are allocated for girls. All these hostels have some similar daily amenities like water purifiers, common rooms, recreation rooms, mess, TV, laundry services, security, and surveillance system, etc. The total intake capacity for boys hostel is about 246 while that of girls is about 172, one more important thing is that you can't study as a day scholar at Sikkim University. 
  • Labs: Besides this, the University has some great well-equipped labs, which have all the modern equipment and measures you would need to excel in.
