Thiruvalluvar University was established at Vellore by Government of Tamilnadu in October 2002. It affiliates 102 Arts and Science College out of which 10 are Government Colleges. It offers postgraduate course in the field of Arts and Science. Thiruvalluvar University also runs Research courses for various programmes in full time as well as part-time mode.

For admission, the candidates have to sit for an entrance exam. The exam is conducted by the University in the respective departments of Thiruvalluvar University, Serkkadu, Vellore-115.
Degree holders from other University need to obtain the Admission Approval Eligibility Certificate from this University for registration. The admission list shall be placed in University and also published in the official University website within two week's time from the date of admission. The selection shall be based on the marks obtained in the Basic qualifying examinations 50% and the Entrance Examination 50% of marks. Numbers of seats are limited to each department offering the courses and selections are based on the Reservation Policy prescribed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.
OC - Open Competition - 31%
BC - Backward Classes including 3.5% for Muslims - 30%
MBC - Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities (DNC) - 20%
SC - Scheduled Castes including 3% for Arunthathiyars - 18%
ST - Scheduled Tribes - 1%
3% in each of the above categories for Physically Handicapped.
Key points to be noted:
- Candidates from other states other than Tamil Nadu shall be considered under OC except SC/ST candidates.
- Along with the regular selection list, separate waiting lists under each quota shall be prepared and placed in the notice board.
- Vacancy arising under BC category should be filled only with other communities.
- Vacancy arising under BC (Muslim) and MBC & DNC category should be filled only with BC candidates.
- Vacancy arising under SC/ST category should be filled only with MBC / DNC candidates

Thiruvalluvar University MA and M.Sc Admission 2023
The University runs a two-years Master's degree course in Arts and Science stream. The Arts stream has three specializations and Science stream has four specializations to choose from. The admission is done on the basis of entrance exam along with qualified examination marks, divided equally for the preparation of final merit list for various courses.

Thiruvalluvar University M.Phil and Ph.D Admission 2023
The University runs research course with various specialisation in the field of M.Phil and Ph.D. The maximum period for completion of the M.Phil., programme is two years in the case of Full-time candidates, and three years in the case of Part-Time candidates. Whereas, for Ph.D, the maximum completion period is five years for full time candidates and for six years for part time candidates.There are three categories of Ph.D., research scholars:
- Full-Time Research Scholars (with or without stipend or fellowship)
- Part-Time Research Scholars (teacher or non-teacher; internal vis-a-vis external)
- Independent Research Scholars
The admission for both the courses shall made on the basis of the marks obtained by the candidates in qualifying examination and marks scored in the Entrance Test followed by viva-voce/ interview.
The students who have scored qualified marks in UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination / SLET/GATE / teacher fellowship holder are exempted from the entrance test of M.Phil full time course admission.
Whereas, in case of Ph.D admission, the students who qualify UGC/CSIR (JRF) Examination NET/SLET/GATE and teacher fellowship holders are exempted from the proposed entrance examination but they need to sit for an interview which is of 60 marks.
Key points to note for part time programme
- Candidates should enclose the “Service Certificate” and an eligible “No objection Certificate” along with the application form for admission.
- For M.Phil Admission, the first preference will be given to teachers working in the College affiliated to this University and in the Department of this University. Service certificates of the teachers should be issued by the Principal of the college / Polytechnic or Headmaster of the Schools of any category.
- If non-lab oriented subjects are available in the affiliated colleges, the candidates may be registered for the non-lab oriented subjects only.
- The candidates who have secured lesser than 55% (except SC/ST) of marks and got admitted for M.Phil.,are not eligible for teaching positions as per UGC and State Government Norms.

Thiruvalluvar University Distance Education Admission 2023
The University offers distance learning programmes at undergraduate level as well as as postgraduate level. The candidates looking forward to take admission in undergraduate course can choose four different specializations - Science, Commerce, Arts and Business Administration.
Postgraduate courses include Commerce, Arts and Business Administration.
Additionally, students can also opt for Diploma course in four different specializations - Computer Applications, Human Resource Management, Hospital Administration and Yoga for Human Excellence.
Key points to be noted
- Students undergoing regular courses in colleges will be permitted to join, another UG/PG course through Distance Education.
- There should be a minimum gap of two clear years between the date of appearance in the examination in which the candidate has passed the S.S.L.C. [X Standard] and Higher Secondary Examination (+2) or any other equivalent Examination as prescribed in the Prospectus for joining the First Year of Degree Course.

- The application fee of Rs.200/- (Rs.100/- for SC/ST) in the form of DD along with Self attested copies of mark statements of the qualifying examination and filled-in application form should be sent directly to “The Registrar, Thiruvalluvar University, Serkadu, Vellore – 632 115 with superscription on the top of the cover as “Application for admission to University Department”.
