Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for an internship program by CDC in their pre-final year. They are shortlisted by different companies and hired as interns during the summer break of the corresponding semester. We get visited by companies like Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Walmart as well as startups. No. of offers made hit close to a 1000 jobs. The percentage of students getting placed is generally close to 90 percent. I am planning on pursuing higher studies and getting a doctorate in Physics.

Remarks :

The main advantage of our college is increased exposure to the outside world. There are amazing and helpful seniors ready to guide us through any rough patch. Besides, any project under a professor of IIT Kharagpur has its weightage in the concept development as well as in resume. That being said, our college is not all cupcakes and rainbows. The stress to have a decent CGPA, frequent unannounced tests are no cakewalk. But if this pressure is handled in a good way, can prepare us for the cruel world we are about to face after college. I feel it depends on the student's perspective. This college would provide me the platform to explore my qualities (if I have any). With a diverse curriculum and amazing alumni record, I have many options to choose from. I went in through JEE Advanced, so the portal is what I used to get into it. Also, the website of JoSAA was the final step. After a physical registration and a tiring orientation program, BAM! I finally got in.

Admission :

For PhD admission, there will be initial shortlisting based on B. Tech and M. Tech marks. Then candidates will be called for written test. Shortlisted candidates will be allowed to sit in an interview. Final selection is based on academic records, written test marks and interview performances.

Placement Experience :

Over 90% students from BTech get job. Company list and their intake are given every year in Institute website. Salary reaches above 1 cr INR. About 70% of MTech got the job. Few PhD also get the job in college placement drive.

Remarks :

Management is little old fashioned and rigid based on academics more as compared to industry relevant knowledge. Rest of the things are very good in this regard.

Remarks :

Overall one of the best breeding grounds for under grad students in the country. Driven mostly with the talented pool of students that reach through JEE. A very good nurturing environment provided by academicians, though a lot of scope in creating a more collaborative and progressive view to create one of the world’s best institution.

Ques. Which is a better college, IITKGP or NLSIU Bangalore, in terms of reputation and placements?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 13 Oct 21

Ans. The competition to get into NLSIU is very high due to the merit-based system and they have equally impressive placements. IIT Kharagpur, on the other hand, has a very high number of graduates each year, but they do not get offers as high as NLSIU. But you should be considering which of these colleges would add more value to you. Even if you choose to do an LLB from IIT Kharagpur, you should know that it is the first premier institute for engineering. Whereas NLSIU is one of the best universities in the country for law.  Do not choose a college just because it has better placement, instead focus on which college is better for your career in law. A degree from NLSIU would always hold a better position than a degree in Law from an IIT.  There are so many people that drop out of college just because they failed to research better about their career path and what was good for them. Read more

Ques. What will the entrance exam format be for a joint degree program in business analytics by IIM Calcutta, ISI Kolkata and IIT Kharagpur?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 21 Sept 21

Ans. The exam is being conducted for the first time and hence it will not be wise to comment on the pattern of the exam. However, based on the previous year’s exam, below would be my best guess. Discussing last year, there was a maximum of 10 questions in the exam. And all the questions did possess options, but still, you had to write the complete answer else you would face partial grading for the questions. Few topics such as Integration, Differentiation, Quadratic Equations, Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Probability, and Combinatorics were covered. Since the quant syllabus is more or less the same this year as well, similar types of questions could be expected. If we are talking about Quant then topics such as probability, P and C, matrices, and determinants should be covered thoroughly. You will get to study such topics in your first semester at ISI Kolkata. In Data Interpretation, we can expect questions similar to the ones given in CAT. Basic visualization and inference-based questions should be practiced. As far as verbal and logical reasoning is concerned, it is again not commendable but you can expect questions on a similar pattern to CAT. The exam format for a joint degree program in business analytics by IIM Calcutta, ISI Kolkata, and IIT Kharagpur. I cannot tell you the exact pattern but you can cover all the topics of modern Maths for the exam. It will be helpful to you.Read more

Ques. How was your IIM C/IIT Kharagpur/ISI Kolkata PGDBA interview experience?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 16 Sept 21

Ans. One of my cousins has recently been to a PGDBA interview, and here are some points he briefly talks about: There were three panelists, from ISI Kolkata, IIM Kolkata, and IIT Kharagpur. My cousin was first asked to introduce himself in fewer words, following which he was asked what eigenvalues and eigenvectors meant. He was thoroughly counter questioned about related topics. The panelists shifted focus to one of the main topics i.e. Statistics and Probability. He was questioned about the definition of Poisson Distribution, to which his reply was rather crisp and plain-sailing. He mentioned, alongside the actual answer, what associated probability mass function meant. They also asked several contradictory questions about the same. Following that, he was questioned for the reason behind why public sector banks were merged. Most essentially, they ask about why countries like China and the USA were interested in the Korean land. Questions like the difference between supervised learning and unsupervised learning; Israeli Palestinian conflict, and analytics were often enquired to him. It is suggested that you prepare the concepts of your course very thoroughly, alongside other important subject areas that are one section of the course you have pursued. Read more

Ques. I am interested in pursuing PGDBA offered by IIT KGP, IIM C, and ISI Kolkata. Have little to no programming experience. Should I pursue this career?

● Top Answer By Yashmeet Grover on 15 Sept 21

Ans. My brother is doing his PGDBA from IIT KGP and he was rather afraid of programming and coding when he started the course. If you're stuck in the same situation, then my only advice is to enroll in the course with an open mind and a desire to learn to program if you don't already know-how.  Coding Experience: There is always a first time of everything. Now there are numerous MOOCs available online that can assist you in taking the initial step. The discipline of analytics (technical side) necessitates solid coding abilities, and therefore if you want to pursue a career in analytics, you should start learning the necessary skills now. Work Experience: It is not necessary to have prior work experience to enroll in the course. However, relevant analytical experience aids in extracting greater value from the course.  According to your assessment of your interests, you have a preference for fields involving mathematics and statistics. Analytical science is an excellent fit in that regard. I would recommend that you go into MOOCs like Coursera, audacity, and your willingness to learn more about this field. You will obtain a better understanding of the field and would be able to decide if this is a good fit for you or not.Read more

Ques. Which one will be a better choice for an MSc in maths, IISc, ISI Kolkata, or IIT KGP?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 03 Sept 21

Ans. It would be better to focus on colleges that offer Mathematics as their core and you must keep technological institutions aside. Thus, IIT Kharagpur should not be considered. Talking about IISc and ISI Kolkata, both are research-oriented institutions and are equally good for taking up MSc in mathematics. But when we talk Maths in specific, then it would be better if you look at ISI Kolkata as your ultimate option.  The institute is specifically oriented towards studies related to Mathematics. You will be given great exposure at ISI Kolkata.Read more
