  • University of Calcutta is inviting applications for the Ph.D. program in Computer Science and Engineering. The last date to submit the application form along with the SBI payment receipt is December 8, 2020. The examination is scheduled for December 15, 2020 (tentative) and the final interviews for admission will be held on December 26, and 28, 2020.
  • The university is inviting applications for the Research Eligibility Test (RET 2020) for the Botany department. The application fee for the same is INR 100 which could be paid online as well as offline. RET 2020 will be held on November 28, 2020, and the interview for admission will be conducted on December 3, 2020.
  • Calcutta University is now accepting applications for admission to M.Tech, M.Sc/ B.Tech, MA/ Integrated BLISc, MLISc, and M.Com courses. Candidates are required to fill the application form in the given due time. The last date to fill the application form has been extended to November 14, 2020, which was earlier scheduled for November 10, 2020.
  • The admission portal of the university will remain suspended on and from November 6, 2020, 00:00 hrs (12.01 A.M.) to November 7, 2020, 00:00 hrs (12.01 A.M.) due to the maintenance of the server. The online admission portal will be available on and from November 7, 2020, 00:02 hrs (12.02 A.M.).
  • The Govt of West Bengal, Department of Higher Education has released a notice stating that the state-aided universities and affiliated colleges will be reopening the UG admission portal to invite fresh applicants for the 2020-2021 semester 1 admission.
  • Calcutta University may soon reopen its UG admission portal (if seats available) to invite fresh applicants. Last date for the Calcutta University UG admission 2020 application process will be October 30, 2020.
  • The admissions for Calcutta University MBA 2020 have been started since October 1, 2020. The candidates can still fill the application form from the University website www.caluniv.ac.in and the candidates have to submit the application forms physically in the office of the Department of Business Management at Alipore Campus between 12 noon and 4 pm on October 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 2020 and November 2-4, 9-11, 2020. Dates of GD/ PI are yet to be notified.

The University of Calcutta, Kolkata is also known as Calcutta University is a public state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. It was established on 24 January 1857 by the Act of Legislative Council of British India. It is the first institution in South Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and western-style university. The University began functioning on the pattern of the University of London initially but eventually introduced its own modifications. The University still commands one of the top positions in the country providing quality education in UG, PG and Research Courses.

At present, the University is considered Asia’s largest University based on the strength of the students. The University was awarded 5 stars by NAAC in 2001 and in 2010 NAAC ranked the university as 'A’ grade in 2008, UGC declared Calcutta University as "University with Potential for Excellence".

Calcutta University Admission

The University of Calcutta conducts separate admission cycles for UG, PG and Research courses. The application process is majorly online, however, for certain research programs, it is offline too. The general cycle for admission to UG courses is in May every year.

The admission to most of the UG and PG courses is based on merit. For admission to UG Courses at Calcutta University, each affiliated college with the University of Calcutta releases its own cut-off score and candidates who have scored marks equal to or more than the cut-off score is granted admission. For admission to PG Courses at Calcutta University, the merit list is declared by the respective departments at the university. However, Calcutta University B.Tech. and M.Tech. admissions have different criteria from other courses.

Calcutta University Entrance Exam

For a majority of UG and PG courses, the admission is merit-based. However, for certain PG courses such as M.Sc., MCA, M.Sc. M.Ed. etc. the University conducts its own entrance exam.

Calcutta University grants admission to B.Tech program on the basis of marks scored in WBJEE Exam. For M.Tech, the university conducts its own entrance exam and also gives weightage to GATE scores of a candidate.

For admission to the MBA program, applicants should have a valid CATMAT score. Similarly, for BA LLB, the University conducts a separate entrance exam. The admission to research courses is also through entrance exams which are conducted by the separate concerned departments of the University.


Calcutta University Results

The university declares two types of results: Entrance exam results and University exam results.

The university conducts entrance exam for admission to various research courses. The result of an entrance exam for the research courses is declared by the concerned department and is made available on the official website as well.

The university exam results for UG courses are declared on the official website for West Bengal Results maintained by the National Informatics Center. The results for Honors, Major, and General Exams are declared separately. A student can access their result by visiting the official West Bengal Results website and entering their roll number.


Calcutta University Placement

Calcutta University Facilities

  • Library: The university started its first library in the 1870s. Now the university has 20 departmental libraries out of which 39 total libraries, a central library, 2 campus libraries, and 2 libraries advanced centers. University library has now more than 10 Lakhs of books, 20000+ bound journals, 85,000 volumes in hard copy, etc.
    The Library has a collection of more than 42,000 manuscripts including quite a few on palm leaves, including 20,000 in Sanskrit, 12,000 in Tibetan and Bengali and also several Persian and Arabic manuscriptsManuscript Library.
  • Hostel: Calcutta University has 16 halls and hostels which accommodate a total of 1,550 students. Out of these 16 halls and hostels, 8 are for female candidates and the rest are for male candidates.
  • Centre for Research in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology: It was developed for the creation of a center of excellence for interdisciplinary research in Nanosciences and Nanotechnology.
