Are placement stats of IIM Ranchi fake?

The placement statistics released by IIM Ranchi are not particularly fake but yes very exaggerated. For example, the recruiters who just recruited 2-3 students a couple of years ago are still added to the list of recruiters. This tactic is employed to show off the brands of top companies. The CTC is calculated wrongly and also exaggerated. The same role offered by the same company to students of other B Schools is shown at IIM Ranchi to offer a CTC higher to its own students. This reality is wrong and not what the company promised. This has now come into the notice of many and IIM Ranchi Is slowly losing its reputation. The students feel cheated because many students chose Ranchi over other IIMs despite calls from them just because of its placement statistics. One way to clear the misconception is to check the NIRF placement report. You can see from it that Ranchi lies below Trichy and even Udaipur. So do your part of research before finally choosing IIM Ranchi.

Is it worth choosing IIM Ranchi, Trichy for MBA in terms of placement and future scope?

Yes, you can easily choose IIM Ranchi or Trichy based on their placement statistics because the placement scenarios at both IIMs seem promising despite the lack of infrastructure and campus facilities. In many cases, Trichy and Ranchi have exchanged leads outside the ABC and LIK worlds. All can be overcome if you are taught by the best professors. Elaborating further, IIM Trichy seems better than Ranchi or Rohtak to me. The reason being the superior teaching methods and its favorable location both for students as well as recruiters. Apart from Trichy, other IIMs are also doing fairly well compared to non-CAT MBA institutes. These are doing well with the help of sponsor IIMs which arrange faculty and placements. These in turn select their own Directors and invest in the infrastructure required in another 3–4 years as Trichy and Ranch have already done.

How good are the placements in IIM Ranchi?

Is MBA in HRM a good option in terms of academics and placements from the new IIMS? I have heard that only IIM Ranchi is good for HRM.

Many of the old and new IIMs do not place as much emphasis on HR jobs or electives as XLRI and TISS. If you took a few HR electives and graduated from an old IIM, you may still be able to secure a decent HR job. However, attending XLRI or TISS would likely be a more practical choice for someone interested in a career in HR. New IIMs, including IIM Ranchi and IIM Indore, which now offer PGP HRM programs, tend to have fewer top general management or consulting roles available and almost no great HR roles. An MBA in HRM is generally considered most useful from XLRI, TISS, SCMHRD, XIMB, and MDI. If you are considering an MBA in HR from IIM Raipur, Udaipur, Sambalpur, Jammu, Nagpur, Bodh Gaya, Trichy, or Vizag, it may not be the best decision.

How is IITD MBA compared to IIM Trichy/ Ranchi? And how are the placements at IIT Delhi in Operations?

My friend recently joined DMS, IIT Delhi to pursue MBA despite getting calls from almost all the new IIMs. She based her decision on the following factors ROI: I think this is an underestimated factor people don’t stress enough. Why are IIM Ranchi and Raipur underrated compared to IIM Udaipur even after better placement records?

I think the single most important reason why IIM Raipur and Ranchi are considered below IIM Udaipur is the lack of proper marketing. IIM Udaipur has managed to make its mark through enough marketing and promoting research culture. The IIMRs is also flawed in the sense that they are located in extremely poor economic states. This flaw overshadows all their features and the fact that they have better placement scenarios than IIM Udaipur. Every IIM has set a certain goal and is gradually climbing the ladder to reach its level of excellence. The same is the case with IIMRs. In just a few years these two will be among the best IIMs in India.

I converted both IIM Ranchi and IIM Udaipur. What are some honest opinions because both have almost comparable rankings and placement reports?

The decision of choosing a college should be taken at an individual level. You can seek advice from others but not ask them to decide for you. Try to analyze what exactly you want from your MBA program. What is it you are seeking and how to achieve it? Once you are sure about that, college does not matter much. Honesty both the IIMs you mentioned give an edge to each other. Still if I would have to choose one, I would go for IIM Udaipur because of its recent success stories. IIM Udaipur has seen a rise in international rankings like QS and FT. Earlier these rankings included only the top IIMs A, B and C. IIM Udaipur has proven its worth by appearing on such international rankings. It is also the youngest B-school in the “world” to be featured in the FT MiM Rankings. IIM Udaipur is heaven for a research enthusiast. Its premium research culture is the reason for its recent rise in rankings. As far as placement is concerned, both the colleges have similar statistics. The table below has drawn a comparison between the two.
