Ques. Who are some of the best professors in IIEST, Shibpur (Formerly BESU)?

● Top Answer By Sanya Khatana on 09 Apr 21

There are several professors in IIEST, Shibpur who are good. One of my friends studies in the CST department of IIEST. I can name some of the best professors in the department. Professor Manas Hira, Professor Amit Kumar Das, Professor Biplab Kumar Sikdar, Professor Abhik Mukherjee, Professor Arindam Biswas are some of the best professors you will meet in IIEST. Apart from them, Mathematics Department Professor Murari Mitra is good. He has a good grip on the Probability subject.  In the Electrical Department, Professor Sri Kumar Mallik, Professor and Mainak Sengupta are good.  In the Electronics Department, Professor Tamaghna Acharya has good teaching skills. Therefore, the IIEST has many good professors other than these. They are all professional and skilled in their respective subjects and you will learn a lot from them....Read more

Ques. How is the IT branch at IIEST Shibpur? How are the faculty and placements related to IT branch? Is it comparable to CSE here?

● Top Answer By Aakansha Singh on 05 Mar 21

IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity.  Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students.  Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later.  Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work....Read more

Ques. Are the teachers of IIEST Shibpur very strict?

● Top Answer By Arina Seth on 16 Mar 21

My brother pursued Mechanical Engineering from IIEST Shibpur. IIEST, Shibpur Mechanical Department has an excellent set of faculties, but some of them are known to be a little strict. But, their temper and strictness depend on how you behave with them and how much attention you pay in their lectures. Otherwise, they are found to be completely student-friendly. The strictness of the professors is listed below in decreasing order.  Santanu Kumar Karmakar - He seems to be very strict. Somnath Chakrabarti Shyamal Chatterjee Aritra Ganguly Apurba Kishore Dutta Debasis Datta Bijan Kumar Mondal Achin Kumar Chowdhuri Sisir Kumar Guha Sudip Ghosh Partha Pratim Dey Subhas Chandra Mondal Uttam Rana Ashim Guha Bidyut Kumar Bhattacharya Rathindra Nath De - Most benevolent and calm. You should note that this list does not reflect their teaching style or knowledge by any means. It is completely based on how strict they are about attending the classes regularly. Hope the information given in the answer is helpful....Read more

Ques. How is the faculty of IIEST’s CST department? Is it worth joining over Jadavpur’s IT or IIIT Allahabad/BITS Pilani’s ECE?

● Top Answer By Sayani Garg on 12 Apr 21

The IT courses at IIIT Allahabad are top-notch unlike CSE at BITS, Pilani’s. As CSE and IT are different courses and since you say that college doesn't matter to you it comes down to choosing between the subjects. IIEST Shibpur is doing great too in its infrastructure; placements and alumni base. The CST department has done great in the field of placements with 90% student placements in IIEST Shibpur. The highest was about 48 LPA from DirectI and the average package was around 8 LPA. Particulars IIEST SHIBPUR BITS PILANI IIIT ALLAHABAD NIRF Ranking (Overall) 43 27 103 Fees 5 LPA 17.5–19 lakhs 51500/semester Highest Package 39.12 LPA 24.8 LPA 20.83 LPA Average Package 10-20 LPA 12-14 LPA 10 LPA Notable Companies in IIEST Shibpur: Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Google (India, US), Directi, Accenture, Amazon India, Infosys TCS -CTO Digital and many more. Notable Foreign Internships at IIEST Shibpur: (HCII), Human-Computer Interaction Institute, Carnegie Mellon University, United States of America Mc. Gill University, Canada DFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence) , University of Saarland, Germany Nanyang Technological University(NTU), Singapore under NTU-India Connect Program Informatics Lab, Grenoble Amazon Google DAAD fellowship and many more. In short CSE deals with the scientific study of computers and its research applications but IT deals with the industrial applications of the same science. With the above information, I hope it will help you in clearing your point of view to opt between the colleges eventually....Read more

Ques. Which college is better for Aerospace Engineering, IIEST Shibpur or SRM University? (Considering everything - from Faculty to Placements)

● Top Answer By Sourav Roy on 29 Mar 23

IIEST Shibpur is a well-known institute in India. Although it has faced some challenges in recent years, it has been making progress. Aerospace Engineering is the newest department at IIEST, having been established in 2011 by branching out from the Mechanical Engineering Department. Despite being a small batch, the department has a lot of potential. When it comes to faculty, IIEST has an edge over SRM. The Mechanical Department, in particular, is considered one of the premier departments at IIEST. IIEST also has better laboratory and infrastructure facilities than SRM, which is important for students pursuing engineering degrees. In terms of placements, both IIEST and SRM are not doing great. IIEST has the excuse of being a new player in the game, while SRM has had the department for a long time. However, IIEST does have slightly better placements than SRM. It's important to note that ranking colleges based solely on placements is not always accurate. Research output is often a more important criterion to consider. IIEST Shibpur has better faculty and facilities than SRM, and at a much lower cost. So, if you're looking for an Aerospace Engineering college, IIEST Shibpur is worth considering....Read more
