Hostels are multiple and availability and type of room depends on your seniority. I had to share a room (a spacious one) with 4 others until 3rd year, and then for the last 2 years I had a personal room all for myself. Every room is equipped with basic amenities like bed, almirah, cupboard, tables and chairs. You have facility of filtered drinking water (chilled or normal or hot) and delicious food thrice a day in the mess. The meal quality for my hostel was superb. We had great feasts every month (Mutton biryani, fish panturi, kebabs and jalebis) and there is non-vegetarian food cooked 6/7 days a week. Vegetarians have plenty of options daily too (koftas, manchurians, mixed vegs). The registration process for hostel is simple and quite affordable too (about 3.5k per month). In case you do not want a hostel, the college neighbourhood is flocked with options for rented rooms and PG accommodations. But I would suggest you to opt for hostel life at IIEST. It is heaven!
The campus life is the best thing about IIEST Shibpur. Since many opt for residential stay in hostels, it is heaven for them. The campus is always active and abuzz, especially after classes and during lunch. There are multiple activities all round the year which culminates in the Annual Fest REBECA and the multiple tech, literary and social fests like INSTRUO, OIKOTAAN and so on. The college library is heaven for bookworms. There is an impressive collection of not just academic but also leisure books. The best part about the library is its setting and ambience which can make anyone fall in love with reading and libraries. Classrooms are well-kept, and have necessary amenities like projection, foldable desks and storage. The college sees multiple sports activities throughout the year, from inter-hostel to inter-faculty and students activities. There are number of societies and clubs for you to be part of - photography, debate, literature, quiz, dance and what not.
Food quality is very good. Two times the food they will provide. All facility is there. I live in the hostel but if you want to live at rent there are so many options out there
All activities are conducted. There is a central library where you will get all types of book. All sports fields are there. Hackathon
I stayed in the Pandya Hall of Residence, a dedicated hostel facility for girl students from 3rd year onward. 1st and 2nd year students stay at Nivedita Hall. After staying with 3 other roommates in 3rd year, I got a single personal room to myself for the last 2 years of college life. Each room is provided with basic furniture. Toilets are common to students for each floor. Each room faces a veranda. Meals in the mess are tasty and healthy. The process for registering for the hostel and mess is simple and affordable. All one needs to do is apply online followed by some document verification in the mess section offices and from the Hostel Superintendent. There is a deadline of 12 midnight for girl students. For boys, the hostels don't have deadlines. In case one wants to opt for a rented room or PG, they are available right across the institute's gates.
The campus life is the BEST thing about IIEST Shibpur. The greenery, riverside breezes and the multiple pockets for students to hang out make 5 years at college worth it. The annual fest REBECA is held around March-April every year and lasts 4 days with music, dance, ramp-walks, celebrities and friends. The campus has a central library that can provide you enough resources - I didn't purchase a single course book all throughout college - thanks to the library! Classrooms are well ventilated and lit, though I cannot say they are ultra modern. They are equipped with projectors and the CAD, GIS labs are air conditioned of course. The Architecture department also has dedicated labs for materials, climate and so on. The college gymnasium has several equipment for those who love to work out. Besides, the institute's annual sports day and frequent sports leagues between different hostels (girls and boys) is fun. There are multiple clubs (from quiz to photography and so on) to be part of.
Yes. Hostel rooms are old but still well maintained. You can have a lot of activities in hostels. Every hostel take part of different festivals like sarswati puja, holi etc. Food is better in halls. Even you can have your foods from canteen itself.
A well mentained lifestyle. 60-40 is the gender ratio here. No racial discrimination, no sexual discrimination, no ethnicity discrimination, no economic discrimination you will face here. People are very friendly and you will get a chance to work in oldest workshop of the state.
Yes. Though boys hostels are old but if you choose hostel which you must you will have the 4 best years of your life. Every hostel have its own playing facilities, newspaper, tv rooms and many other. Bathrooms are not that well-cleaned. But there are sweepers who are there for cleaning purposes. Hostel residing fees is included in the semester fee as I told before which is used to be very low i.e. 1900 for 6 months stay.
Compus has a very good culture. There are twoain grounds lords and oval along with several other. There were regular tournaments in various sports. The college now also have a basketball court. The college have there own photographic club and various other clubs. The college has a special department dedicated to music with a building specially arranged with many musical instruments. Gender ratio is not that good. Female students are low here. Though the ratio is getting better day by day. The college used to have poltical parties but now the college has no poltical partues and politics in the campus is prohibited.
Gender ratio of college is 10:1 for boys Vs girl and people are from diverse backgrounds as from different states and countries there are many good labs with new machine and there are many clubs for debates, robotics, drama music dance and programming and many more

IIEST Shibpur is a central university and the oldest Architecture degree providing college of the country. The reviews of the college were exceptional, even on CollegeDunia which I religiously followed. I also consulted a few then students of the college to understand whether or not attending this college would be a good decision. Besides, the campus is just 3-4 km away from Kolkata City and had all amenities, including a residential campus. This was my reason for attending this college.by Sakshi Singh
Good environment, accommodation issue is there. Faculty are awesome. Friendly nature, near the college environment, is good.by Pradeep kumar
IIEST Shibpur is the oldest degree-awarding Architecture institute in the country. I was aware of the eminence of the institution with respect to the various courses it offers in engineering, science and architecture for quite a long time. Therefore, when I got a chance to get admitted into the institute, I simply did not want to lose it. The college admits students into the Department of Architecture for UG courses through JEE Main Scores (B.Arch Paper II). After all rounds of counselling are over and the student has frozen his choice, the student has to appear for physical counselling as well as admission processes. If not for the pandemic, the processes are finished by mid-July and classby Sakshi Singh
