My sister was in the batch of (2014-18) at IIEST Shibpur. There were 84 students in her batch, 19 chose a dual degree, and about 60 students were eligible for placements. My brother attended IIEST Shibpur. So, I know a little bit about the institute. The School of Management (SoM) is quite young considering its inception was just 15 years ago. As far as the faculty is concerned, they are all young, willing to learn, and are quite open to connecting with students. You see, the school is in fact a part of a larger science and technology institute. Thus, it is trying to offer various multi-disciplinary opportunities to students. On the other hand, you will find that the school also has a larger placement cell. Due to this, they have created a brand name that has a positive impact on students. If you are one of those students who do not mind going beyond normal boundaries and learning beyond theory, want to gain practical knowledge, and try experimental learning, you should definitely go to IIEST SoM.

Does IIEST Shibpur provide a good placement for M.Tech?

No, it is more or less the same as a bachelors. Not just at IIEST Shibpur, the scenario of placements for Masters is more or less the same at every institute in India. If you pursuing Masters then you should keep your aim straight to get a Company related to your branch or pursuing higher studies (Ph.D.) for the teaching line. B.Tech level hiring is more or less the same in M.Tech at the institute. There are some departments in M.Tech which have a moderate placement. The other departments do not offer good placement opportunities. But at IIEST Shibpur you will get the best learning opportunities. At last, it is up to you only which field you are choosing. If you want a job then go for it with for B.Tech degree, If you want a purely technical job then go for a masters and if you want an academic line then go for further higher studies i.e. Ph.D. from abroad.

In terms of teaching and placements for architecture, how good is IIEST Shibpur?

From the half-century of its existence, the newfound department of Architecture had produced 800 graduates in Architecture and 300 postgraduates in Town Planning. NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture) was founded by the undergrad students collectively. The association is non-political and non-profitable. The department has a dynamic student’s body. Even its Alumni are spread across the world and the senior-junior relationship is wonderful. Teaching: The professors are experienced, but they have a small ounce of work experience. So, their teaching lacks the upgraded trends and technologies that are being used in the present day. Even the syllabus is outdated. Most of the professors are not very student-friendly. It is better to maintain professionalism. Initially, the students find the college burdensome, but with time it is manageable. Most classes are held regularly. Placement: There is hardly any placement assistance in this department. Students have to arrange the job/ internship for themselves. Construction companies that visit the campus are not interested in recruiting architecture students. Hardly 4-5 students get selected in MN Dastur. Although if a student has maintained a decent portfolio, they can get a job at lower packages. IIEST Shibpur is one of the best colleges in eastern India in terms of infrastructure, campus, cultural fests (REBECA), and accommodation. The architecture department is the most active. Five years of architecture are packed with learning and growing.

How is the IT branch at IIEST Shibpur? How are the faculty and placements related to IT branch? Is it comparable to CSE here?

IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity. Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students. Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later. Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work.

GOOD PLACEMENTS- VIBRANT CAMPUS LIFE

Placement Experience:

From the 7th semester, students are eligible for campus placements. Companies like google, amazon, Microsoft, texas instruments, zs associates, Accenture, cognizant and 143 other companies visited the campus and 776 offers were made in 2022. The highest on-campus package was 45lakh offered by Microsoft for the SDE role. more than 95% was placed for CST and IT departments. I will sit for placement and will try to grab offers from top MNCs.

Internships Opportunities:

Companies like Microsoft, wells fargo offer internships with monthly stipends of 1lakh 25 thousand and many are converted to ppo. many students are selected for research internships at various IITs. many are selected for internships abroad.

IIEST from my point of view

Placement Experience:

Students of the 6th and 7th semesters become eligible for campus placements. Many companies come for on-campus placements. The average on-campus package offered is around 6-8 lakhs and the highest package offered was around 50 lakhs on campus. Around 80% of students get placed every year some of them go for higher studies through GATE.

Internships Opportunities:

Some big companies come for on-campus internship offers but the number is very less. Many students apply for internships off campus. Rather than tech-based or job-oriented internships institute supports research internships under professors.

IIESTS - the best 4 years of my life

Placement Experience:

From the 7th semester we are eligible for placements the highest package was around 40 lakhs( Amazon) and the lowest is the mass placements like cognizant and Wipro. in my year around 80% of placements occurred with students getting multiple offers. I am doing a job after placement.

Internships Opportunities:

Companies like TATA Steel, Amazon, etc came for internships and thereby gave PPO to those candidates, the role offered by them are GET and Software engineer, however, you can apply to other colleges for projects and internships.
