Tamil Nadu Fisheries University (TNFU), offers undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes. The university conducts entrance examinations for PG and research programmes whereas for UG courses, students must register themselves by filling the application forms online. The university later publishes merit lists for eligible candidates and notifies students about the counselling round.

Counselling process is conducted prior to the final seat allotment to the candidates. However, those who have qualified ICAR (Ph.D entrance test) are directly called for counselling. The university also has provisions of scholarship for different courses for talented & economically backward students.

TNFU B.F.Sc and BE Admission 2023

The Faculty of Fisheries Sciences and Faculty of Fisheries Engineering offers B.F.Sc. and B.E. courses respectively at the UG level.

  • Intake for B.F.Sc. course is 60 whereas for BE it is 20.
  • Age limit for the programmes is less than 21 years.
  • Admission is conducted on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying examination.

B.E. Fisheries Engineering

Students looking for admission can apply online by visiting the official website of TNFU. Application fee is INR 600 for open category candidates & INR 300 for SC/ST & SCA.

Counselling: For B.F.Sc programme, the results which includes the rank of the candidates will be published on the university website. Final selection to this course is done after counselling only. The notification regarding the same will be issued on the university website & through e-mail.       

TNFU M.F.Sc Admission 2023

TNFU enrolls students to its multiple M.F.Sc. programmes through entrance examination. These courses have a duration of 1-4 years. The students will be assigned guides who will be either working in FCRI campus or in the University Campuses / Outstations/ Research centres.

The applicants hailing from Tamil Nadu have a reserved seat percentage of 75% whereas a 25% is for the candidates from other states who have qualified ICAR. There will be a separate merit lists for the Tamil Nadu candidates and those hailing from other states.

Counselling Process: The university calls upon the eligible candidates for counselling, based on the rank that they have secured in the entrance examination. During the counselling process, they have the opportunity to select any of the subject which is available at the moment or choose to register themselves in the waiting lists. Candidate must understand that if they have registered as a waiting list candidate, he/she will not be provided a confirmed seat in any other discipline. Students in the waiting list will only be considered for the second round of counselling.

TNFU Application Process for B.F.Sc and BE Courses

  • Candidate should visit the university website firstly and click on the “Admission” to download the Prospectus which contains detailed information regarding all the courses (eligibility criteria, mode of selection, counselling procedures).
  • Students must carefully check for the eligibility criteria in the Prospectus. After ensuring the fulfillment of the same, they should proceed towards the application form by clicking on “Online Application” link which should be followed by “Apply Now” option.
  • After verifying all the details, students must “Save” the application form. The final step will be to click on the “Submit” option followed by payment of application fee.
  • After that candidate will receive an SMS carrying their Login ID and Application number. While the Login ID must be used to download the form in order to get a hard copy of the application form, the Application number should be used as a reference for any queries.
  • If the candidate fails to receive an SMS, he/she must contact Admission Committee through e-mail or phone number.
  • Students should attach a recent passport photograph and get it attested by a Group A or Group B officer or the Head of the Institute in which he/she has previously studied to the hard copy of the application form. The candidate must get the declaration signed by his/her parent/guardian which must be enclosed with the application form as well.
  • The application form’s hard copy along with necessary documents must be carried at the time of admission counselling and must be produced along with the original documents as per the instructions.

TNFU Ph.D Admission 2023

The Ph.D programmes offered by the university selects and enrolls students on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination. The questions in the entrance examination are of multiple choice where candidate can select the correct answer from the enlisted set of options.

Entrance examination for Ph.D: The university conducts entrance examinations of one hour duration for the admissions to its doctoral programmes. The candidate must appear in the subject that he/she has studied during post graduation. The examination carries MCQs with four listed options to choose the correct answer from. The maximum marks of the examination are 40. The centre of examination is Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi. Those who have qualified Senior Research Fellowship of ICAR do not have to appear the entrance examination.

Counselling: The final process for the selection of Ph.D students is based upon counselling process. Candidate’s performance in the entrance examination is considered for the counselling process. Student must secure an average minimum of more than 50% marks (40% marks for SC/ST) to be eligible for the counselling.

TNFU Application Process for M.F.Sc & Ph.D programmes

  • Candidate must visit the university website to download the prospectus.
  • Students must fill the details in the application form with due attention. No request for any changes will be accepted later. A recent passport size photograph must be attached to the application form, of 50 KB in size whereas signature of not more than 10KB.
  • Candidates seeking admission to reserved seats must also upload a copy of attested certificate by a competent authority as a proof. Those who are employees of TNFU and Government of Tamil Nadu are also apply under the reserved category.
  • Students must pay the registration fee via Demand Draft of INR 1000/- (INR 500/- for SC/ST) drawn in favour of The Finance Officer, TNFU, Nagapattinam (payable at Nagapattinam) from national level bank. There is no provision of online payment.

Students must submit the following original documents during admission, failing which, his/her admission will be nullified: 

  1. Provisional/Degree certificate of UG & PG degree course.
  2. Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate for the previously completed course
  3. Conduct Certificate from the Head of the Institution for the course completed by the candidate previously
  4. Original Mark Sheets/Report Cards of Bachelor’s/Master’s degree
  5. Community Certificate in case the candidate wishes to seek admission to a reserved seat.
