English and Foreign Language University (EFLU), Lucknow was established in 1979 to provide training to university/college teachers of English in northern India but later it evolved into a full-fledged campus Centre offering Bachelor, Master, Doctoral and PG Diploma courses in the domain of teaching of English.

To be eligible for the UG program, the candidates must possess a 10+2 qualification, to be eligible for M.A. in English, the candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 55% marks.

The campus also runs Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in four foreign languages namely French, German, Spanish and Russian. EFLU, Lucknow is best known for giving training in communication skills, conducting special teacher training for teachers and conducting workshops on grammar.

Admission in various courses is given on the basis of score in university conducted entrance test followed by counselling. To apply for admission, the candidates can register by filling in the online application form. The registration forms can also be submitted through offline mode.

The college has been ranked 21 in India Today's survey of 'All India Ranking of Government Universities - 2018.

ELFU Lucknow BA Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have passed the Intermediate/10+2 examination or its equivalent, with 50% marks for General/OBC candidates, and 45% marks for SC/ST category candidates, with English as one of the subjects.

English Literature

The candidate must have completed M.A. English with 55% marks for General/OBC (creamy layer) candidates, and 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled candidates.
Or, must be M.Phil. English (Commonwealth Literature/ English Literature)
Or, the candidate must be pursuing any of the qualifying programmes mentioned above and must have passed the examination by the time of admission and has scored the minimum eligibility marks.

English Language Education

The candidate must have completed M.A. in Teaching English as Second Language (TESL) / English Language Teaching(ELT) / English with at least one course in the area of ELT with 55% marks for General/OBC (creamy layer) candidates, and 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer) / differently-abled category candidates.

Linguistics and Phonetics

The candidate must have completed M.A. in Linguistics / Phonetics / Applied Linguistics / A. English (which includes papers /courses in Linguistics or Phonetics) with 55% marks for General/OBC (creamy layer) candidates, and 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled candidates.
Or, M.Phil. Linguistics / M.Phil. Phonetics / M.Phil. Applied Linguistics / M.Phil. English (with specialization in Linguistics or Phonetics).

Selection Criteria

Qualified candidates of the university conducted entrance exam will get admission in Ph.D. course by the personal interview round.

How to Apply at ELFU Lucknow?

Applicants must visit the University website and click on the registration link on the University's homepage. Candidates can also download the prospectus from the university website.
Candidates will have to fill up the application form and submit relevant documents along with application fee of INR. 500/- for general candidates and INR. 250/- for SC/ST. They must also provide a caste certificate if not from the general category.
After providing all details, a user id and password will be sent to the candidate’s registered ID. Candidates must take the printout of the application after final submission of it.
Candidates who have registered successfully and have the eligibility must appear for the computer based entrance examination held across India.
The University will release admission lists on its website for candidates who manage to acquire the required minimum cut off. These candidates will be called for the EFLU 2023 counselling. The counselling process of EFLU 2023 will take place in the University Campus. It must be noted that the candidates are suggested to carry all the required official documents to the EFLU counselling 2023.
Candidates will have to lock in their choice and the campus, pay the fees and secure a seat in the college.

The college offers the following scholarships:

Scholarship of INR 1000/- per month for eligible students will be paid twice a year during December and June after the results of the respective semesters are declared. This scholarship is availed by students pursuing B.A. and M.A. programs.

Ques. Does the college have hostel facilities?

Ans. The Lucknow Campus has two hostels (Men and Women) for outstation students pursuing a full-time course on the campus. The rooms are available on a sharing basis.

Ques. Does the college offer placement?

Ans. The college has a placement cell that connects students studying in the end semester with recruiters. It has placed its candidates in Universities, multinational companies, media houses among many others.

Ques. What kind of questions will be asked in the entrance?

Ans. For B.A., M.A. and PGDTE, applicants will have to attempt a Computer-based 100 marks test which will have objective type questions. For PhD, applicants will have to attempt a Computer-based 70 marks test which will have objective type questions and appear for an interview which will carry a weightage of 30 marks.
