Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science is an institute located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Came into existence in 1876, it is one of the oldest research institutes. Further, it is the only institute that has earned Asia’s first and country’s only Nobel Prize in Science based on the work done.

Affiliated by the University Grants Commission UGC, the institute is actively conducting research work in physics, chemistry and chemical biology. IACS offers an Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Science (B.Sc -M.Sc), Integrated Master’s and Ph.D Program in Biological Science (Int. M.Sc-Ph.D) and Ph.D. program.Admission to UG-PG and Integrated M.Sc-Ph.D. is based on the entrance exam conducted by the institute. For UG-PG, candidates need to appear in the UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST) while for Int. M.Sc -Ph.D. they have to take the Master’s Pre-Interview Screening Test (MPST) exam. The final selection depends upon the Interview round.

For admission into Ph.D., students are evaluated based on their academic record and score in UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST or equivalent national level exam. However, the shortlisted candidates are further called for a written test and/or interview.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with a minimum first division/60% marks (55% for Reserved categories) or equivalent grade in both 10 and 10+2 levels are eligible for admission.
  • Those who have appeared in 10+2 exams can also apply.

Selection Criteria 

  • For admission in the program, the eligible candidates will have to appear for UG Pre-Interview Screening Test, UPST.
  • UPST is a computer based test consisting of multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and either of Computer Science or Biological Science. 
  • The test will be held in various cities across India.
  • Those who qualify the test are called for an interview and top 60 students will be selected. 
  • KVPY Fellows and candidates scoring a rank in JEE Main or NEET up to 8000 will be called for the Interview round directly. Such candidates are exempted from UPST and a total of 10 seats are available for them.

  • The minimum requirement for the program is a Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering with first class or 60% marks (55% or equivalent for Reserved categories) and first division in 10 and 10+2 levels.

Selection Criteria

  • For securing admission in MS-Ph.D, candidates need to take a Master's Pre- Interview  Screening Test conducted by the institute.
  • MPST is an online test which will be held across various cities in India. The test will contain MCQS.
  • Those who qualify the test have to appear for the Interview.
  • Maximum of 30 students will be finalized for admission in each of the schools offering the program.

How to Apply for Indian Association of Cultivation Science?

For taking admission in the programs offered by the institute, the candidates need to apply online. For applying the candidates need to follow the given steps-

  • Now click on the ‘Online Application’ link.

  • After filling details, candidates will receive the user id and password on their registered e-mail id and contact number respectively.
  • Login using the login credentials and fill in the application form.
  • Make the payment online through debit card/credit card or net banking.
  • The fees is INR 1200 for general category students and INR 600 for SC/ST/PWD candidates, which is non-refundable.
  • Save the information and take a print of the duly filled application form.
