I have heard a lot about the University. Their representatives have visited us many times. UBC also offers a "testing" online learning session where students would get to be a part of the program for several sessions. This has allowed me to fully experience how my class would feel like if I were an official UBC student. UBC also offers many clubs activities and are especially good in helping students find jobs and internships.
Course Curriculum :
The course curriculum is somewhat hard. Many online reviews have compared the degree of difficulty of the courses in UBC to that of other institution, and UBC (School of Sauder) is one of the hardest ones with less than 2% of students scoring above 90%. Personally, I do not find this to be the result of the course itself being hard, but the grading criteria being strict.
Exams :
My predicted grade IBDP grade was 38, which was generally already very high for the initial application. According to personal research, the minimum requirement is 24, although this may depend on the type of course you are applying for. Other than my IBDP certification, I did not apply nor submit any other standardized test forms.
Placement :
There are always new company posts and visits being announced on the student dashboard. On average, there would be 3-4 new ones per week. And a lot more internships offered on the UBC career website. The placement process depends entirely on the company's requirement and preferences. And the median salary is under $100/month, depending on the type of internship, and the industry you are applying for.
Events :
Again, I am not residing on campus, therefore no comments can be said regarding the campus and its infrastructure. However, the extracurricular offered via online platforms were generally very affective and engaging. Though it may not be as worth-while as real life events, UBC has put a lot of effort into ensuring that students are learning from certified individuals from specific industries. (this being referred to Hackathons events, etc.)
Scholarship :
I have received an Outstanding International Students Awards that is worth $1,000CAD (about 798.06) in total. It can only be used once, and is only applicable to UBC tuition fee.
Faculty :
I have not been able to attend school in real life yet, but through virtual interactions, most of the faculty professors are friendly and helpful. The ones I have worked with were generally willing to help all the time. The Teacher's Assistant (TAs) are even more friendly as they help give career advice, as well as course work assistant.
Hostel :
This is not applicable for me as I have not been accommodated a room on Campus, nor anywhere near the area. Through what I heard from my peers. First year students may receive some priorities to find a suitable and cheap accommodation on campus, but those of second or third year students may have to conduct early research to hunt for one themselves. (at this moment, finding a place to stay in is very difficult. Many of my friends have gotten their offer rejected, and are currently looking for a place to stay outside of UBC)
