IIT Delhi, the exam conducting authority has released the examination schedule for GATE 2020. It will conduct the engineering exam in total 8 slots, two each on February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020. As per GATE 2020 Paper Schedule, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering exam will be held in two sessions while other 23 papers will be held in single session. 

A total of 8,58,030 candidates have applied for GATE 2020. IIT Delhi has released the list of candidates with defects in application forms. These candidates can rectify the defects through GATE 2020 Form Correction window till December 6, 2019 upto 5:00 PM.

• GATE 2020 Admit Card will be issued to registered candidates on January 3, 2020. 
• A new paper of Biomedical Engineering has been added in the list of 24 exams. From this year, the exam will be conducted for 25 branches of STEM. Check GATE Exam Pattern

• GATE 2020 would be the first of the GATE exam with seats reserved for EWS (Economical Weaker Section) aspirants.
• As per the Central Government Amendments, 10% of seats in addition to the existing reservation would be reserved for EWS aspirants.
• Normalization process will be followed to devise the results of candidates.
• It will be the second time (First being GATE 2019) when the paper of Statistics discipline would also be among the papers examined in the entrance test.
• A candidate can appear in the exam for only one discipline of their respective background.
• The number of aspirants registering for GATE 2020 is expected to be nearly 10 Lakh as compared to 9.5 lakhs in 2019.

GATE 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates preparing for GATE 2020 must note the eligibility criteria for the same. This would help the candidates to determine their suitability before making an application for the exam. Candidates not satisfying the eligibility criteria would be disqualified from the exam during any subsequent stage.

The detailed eligibility criteria for the exam are listed below for reference of the candidates:

Age Criteria- There is no age limit for GATE, candidates from any age group can apply for the exam.

Nationality- Applicant must be an Indian citizen. Candidates from outside India can also apply for the exam if they fulfill the required eligibility criteria. 

Academic Qualification- 

• Candidate must have obtained a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree (after 10+2) in BE/B. Tech, B.Arch, B.Sc from a state/central government, recognized institution.
• Candidate must have qualified the Bachelor’s or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 45%.
• Candidates studying in the final year of Bachelor’s or equivalent are also eligible for making an application.

Candidates who registered after May 31, 2013 for certification equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch from any of the professional societies (IE, ICE, IETE, AeSI, IIE, IIM etc) are now eligible to apply for GATE 2020, provided they meet rest of the GATE Eligibility Criteria

GATE 2020 Registration 

GATE 2020 Application Form was available from August 31 till October 5, 2019.  GATE Registration was completely online. Candidates had to submit the application form with payment of fees by visiting the official website – gate.iitd.ac.in.

Candidates were able to access the application form through the GATE Online Application Processing System. There are a few mandatory steps that candidates need to follow while applying for GATE exam. They are-

1. Registration- Candidates have to register themselves through GOAPs by entering their name, email id, and mobile number after which an enrollment id will be generated. Candidates have to change the password for the future login purpose. 
2. Filling of Application Form- After registration, a complete application form will appear in which the candidates have to provide personal, academic, and qualification details. candidates will have to choose the preferred exam centers while filling the online application form. 
3. Uploading Images- Once the candidate has filled the application form, they have to upload the scanned copy of photograph, signature and category certificate (if applicable) as per the specifications of exam authority. 
4. Fee Payment- Candidates have to pay the application fee in online mode i.e. through net banking/debit card/credit card. 
5. Application Form Submission- After completing all the steps mentioned above, candidates have to submit the application form.

GATE Application Form Correction

GATE aspirants were provided the facility to make corrections (if any) in the application form from October 15 – November 25, 2019. The official notification for GATE Application Form Correction has been released by the authority. Candidates can make changes in only a certain area of their application form. The details that can be corrected are- 

• Candidate’s name 
• Date of Birth
• Name of Parent
• Country 
• Parent’s Mobile Number
• Correspondence Address
• Qualifying Degree Details
• Category/gender/PwD status/Dyslexia

GATE 2020 Exam Centers

GATE 2020 exam will be conducted at various cities across the country as well as abroad. six exam centers are located outside India i.e. in Dubai, Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, Singapore, and Kathmandu.

The exam conducting authority has released official mock tests for GATE aspirants. There are separate mock tests for different streams of Engineering and Technology. By practicing these mock tests candidates will get an idea about the exam pattern and type of questions asked. GATE 2020 Counselling Process

The counseling process for GATE 2020 is expected to start in the month of April 2020. Candidates qualifying the exam would be issued call letter for the purpose of counselling. The scorecard will also get released post the declaration of GATE 2020 results.

At the time of counselling, candidates would be required to carry the following documents:

• Class 10th certificate and mark sheet
• Class 12th certificate and mark sheet
• Graduation mark sheet of all the semester
• Caste certificate (if applicable)
• EWS Certificate (if applicable)
