Lassonde at YorkU

9.3 /10

My program was only offered here and at UTM and heard UTM has high dropout rate so I went to York. But all the programs were accredited so I thought I can focus on extracurricular activies and work while studying which is another reason I picked york.

Course Curriculum :

Heavy but fair. I like that it is an accredited program so there is a standard where I know I am getting an education not getting bell curved my way to my degree. (Heard we have no bell curves for major courses in Lassonde York)

Exams :

None. Through my grade 12 average I was accepted. International students on the other hand might have to take exams to enter. Such as the english literacy exam and so on.

Placement :

Good. But unlike Waterloo that requires students to take them and helps them to get placements here at york it is competitive and compared to Waterloo and UFT it has less partners. Still a wide variety compared to other universities.

Internship :

Yes we have Internships which takes around 8-12 months to complete of consecutive paid/ non-paid job placement. As well as out of country placement where you can be a part of a startup that covers your expenses.

Events :

We celeberate most Human right events like black history month, women's day and what not. But at my college (faculty) we celeberate achievements by upper year memebers like when we did the L'Oscars for achieving engineers/scientists.

Fees :

So fee on average for me is 8k a year that includes free dental plan (included not free). And so we have 3,6,9 credit courses that is how heavy they are. So with that it's on average 500 per 3 credits and we have 30 credits a year.

Scholarship :

OSAP, which is pretty average for most students. But lassonde has its own scholarships alongside the university's so in that regard this univeristy is providing scholarships for each case.

Examination Structure :

Depends on the course, usually its lab heavy for programming courses. But that is not the case for math/science courses but most my courses have 3 tests and a final and 3/2 assignments. Not for electives.

Faculty :

Very reputable. The only downfall it faces is that it's in york which has constant strikes. But it has many out of country work opportunity and Co-Op opportunities.

Hostel :

I lived at my family home, but there are accomodations inside the university. Also outside the university like in the York area (way cheaper but somewhat dangerous to live in) but you save on transportation.
