I opted for this college because I originally applied, and got accepted, to it for the Nursing program which is extremely innovative as they just designed a brand new, high tech building for the health sciences. Although I switched to Business, the college still has affordable costs and small class sizes to optimize learning and it offers a transfer program. The college is in my hometown and I grew up spending a lot of time there watching volleyball. Throughout high school, I had a 4.0 GPA but I wanted to stay close to home.
Course Curriculum :
So far I'm really enjoying it, particularly statistics.
Exams :
There are only around 30 students in each of my classes so learning is easier than in a huge lecture hall. I took this program as a last-minute switch out of nursing because I like math so I have not really been able to look into too many details or specifics of the program, yet as I said before, I was able to be accepted so late due to my exceptional grades in high school so the advisor did not care to inform me much.
Placement :
I'm not sure because I have never had a college job placement but I have heard good things about most of them. My step-sister did participate in one though for massage therapy and she thought she was going to be practising but instead was left doing a desk job the whole time.
Internship :
There is a career centre on campus that helps you figure out what you need to get an internship and helps you apply and provides you with information on it. Multiple programs offer internship opportunities yet I have not had the chance to do one yet.
Events :
Hamfest is this huge welcome even they offer at both of their campuses during the first week. Sports are greatly celebrated at the college, particularly their volleyball teams which have hosted nationals the past two years and placed highly.
Fees :
There are scholarships that are specific to international students. Although I am not aware of how much the scholarships are each worth, when I looked recently at the list of scholarships there appeared to be many set apart for international students studying at Camosun College. The tuition for my program for domestic students is approximately $2000 per term, not including textbooks.
Scholarship :
I have applied for a couple of scholarships and a bursary. The bursary was a simple online application through Camosun that counted for multiple bursaries and the scholarship required and essay on my family history and an application as well as an attached copy of my transcript.
Faculty :
The faculty had all been exceptionally helpful so far and well educated and there is a good faculty-student ratio, probably around 1:45 so there are small class sizes.
Hostel :
I live in the same city as Camosun college so I still live with my parents and bus to school each morning. Unfortunately, Camosun college does not offer on-campus accommodations, yet there are many places available for rent nearby and it is a beautiful area, especially at the interurban campus, with many walking and biking trails, while the Landsdowne campus is near to downtown Victoria.
