Comparison Notes

Apart from the above-mentioned factors, some other important things to note are:

  • The Sauder Full-Time MBA is a 16-month course whereas the Desautels Full-Time MBA can be done in 1 year or 2 years.
  • Both schools offer 5 specializations, along with the option for customized career tracks.
  • Desautels has an EQUIS accreditation and is a member of PRME and GMAC. Sauder is the only Canadian member of the Global Network for Advanced Management. It also has AACSB accreditation.
  • The placement rate at Sauder was 81% while at Desautels was 85%.
  • Experiential learning at Sauder is done through the Global Immersion Experience, the capstone project, and either an internship or an entrepreneurial project.
  • Experiential learning at Desautels is done through the 10-day international study trip, optional exchange program, the summer internship(s), and an individual project.
  • Even if you have no basic knowledge of business, at Sauder you will get an introduction to accounting, finance, organization, marketing, operations, economics, and analytics as foundation courses. At Desautels, however, before you learn these foundation courses, you will sit through a one-week, intensive boot camp covering business math and financial accounting.
  • Both schools have a lot of scholarships available to MBA students, particularly international students, but Desautels has a higher amount of scholarships, which is around $2 million.

There is no doubt that both are excellent places of study and either choice would be beneficial to a student, but keep in mind that McGill University’s location in Montreal will give students more exposure to different cultures and types of businesses. Vancouver is not buzzing with opportunities the way Montreal is.
