21 Researchers, Faculty Members of IIT Guwahati Featured in World’s Top 2% Scientist List Released by Stanford University


New Delhi: IIT Guwahati has achieved a new milestone as a total of 21 researchers and faculty members from the institute have been featured in the world's top 2% scientist list released by Stanford University. 

The list of the top 2% of scientists in the world, compiled by Stanford University also includes the director of IIT Guwahati, Professor TG Sitharam. 

Professor Sitharam and 20 other faculty members have been ranked for their lifetime contributions to their specific fields of research and their research publications citations utilising all Scopus author profiles as of September 1.

Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields. The top 1 lakh scientists with a c-score of (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of at least 2% in the sub-field are chosen. 

The career-long database has a total of 1,95,605 scientists, and the single recent year dataset contains 2,00,409 scientists. Based on a Scopus snapshot taken on September 1 and updated through the end of the citation year 2021, this version (4) was created.

Faculty members from the Departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Biosciences and Bioengineering, Chemistry, Electrical and Electronics, and IIT Guwahati are among those from diverse scientific domains represented on the Stanford University list.

Speaking about this recognition, Sitharam said that the recognition of several faculty in the world’s top 2 percent of scientists list has placed IIT-Guwahati in the global map of science and has brought great pride to the Institute.

He concluded by congratulating all the 21 scientists and their hard work and commitment to furthering Science.
