June 14, 2021: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has taken a step forward to support students who lost their parents to the COVID-19 pandemic by offering them financial assistance.
As per the official announcement, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University's (AKTU) will now pay up the remaining session fee for those students who lost a parent during this pandemic. The decision to support COVID-19 affected students was taken during a finance committee meeting of AKTU, which was held on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
ATKU’s Special Secretary, Technical Education, Kripashankar, Pro-vice-chancellor Vineet Kasal, University Finance Officer GP Singh, Registrar Nand Lal Singh, Controller of examinations Rajiv Kumar, along with Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Vandana Sehgal were present during the meeting.
The announcement also entails that students of both private and government institutes affiliated with ATKU will be benefitted. Along with fee rendered, the university will also provide financial assistance of INR 5 lakh to faculty working in government and private institutes affiliated to AKTU who have lost their family members to COVID-19.
Referring to the initiative, Vinay Kumar Pathak, Vice-chancellor of AKTU said, "The university has decided to bear the fees for all the remaining sessions of all such students whose parents passed away due to Covid-19".
During the meeting, the finance committee of the university also discussed the establishment of a center of excellence to promote high-level research in the biotechnology domain.The center of excellence will be established at the ATKU’s Centre for Advanced Studies, Lucknow, at a budget of about INR 6 crores.
Additionally, during the meeting, ATKU has also given a green signal to offer a B.Tech Biotech course to interested students at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Lucknow.
