All State University Exams Stand Cancelled, Says Delhi Government

Exams Cancelled

As per the recent tweets of Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Government, all the examinations of Delhi State Universities remain cancelled

His tweet reads, “The Delhi Government believes that if a semester has not been taught, the students cannot be evaluated on this. So the government has taken the decision to cancel all the exams including the final exams in all Delhi state universities and affiliated institutes.”

Sisodia suggested that students will be evaluated based on internal assessment and past performances. However, the actual evaluation system will be exercised by the respective universities at their own discretion.

This decision is to influence the administration of universities funded directly by the Delhi Government. This includes Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University), Delhi Technological University (DTU), Indira Gandhi Technical University for Women and Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD).

The decision will not impact central universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University.

Meanwhile, UGC issued revised guidelines stating university exams to be held by September. Post which, Delhi became the first state to declare cancelling exams for the current year.

Before UGC guidelines were out, about six states had already cancelled university exams. As of now, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Odisha and Maharashtra have written to the Central Government going against holding exams.

In this pandemic situation, holding exams will add to the adversities amid this scary climate. All educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities are closed since the nationwide lockdown was declared in March. Such closures were enforced only to prevent further transmissions of novel Coronavirus.
