Anna University Awards Degrees to 10,000 Students on Graduation Day


New Delhi: Anna University has awarded degrees to almost 10,067 students on the graduation ceremony conducted on the grounds of the College of Engineering, Guindy.

Of the total 10,067 graduates who received their degrees on Anna University Graduation day, 3,968 were female students and 6,099 male students respectively. 

According to the latest reports, Tamil Nadu's minister of higher education, K. Ponmudy, stated that the government was committed to implementing programmes for students to help them become successful entrepreneurs. 

He added that the state government has begun programmes for the welfare of female students, including a monthly stipend. The "Naan Mudalvan" Scheme, introduced by the Chief Minister, aims to train 10 lakh youth in the state. Through this program, the youths will be able to identify their talents and interests.

There were 6,340 graduates who signed up to receive their degrees during the graduation ceremony. Around 3,837 students graduated from undergraduate (UG) programmes, while 2,503 from postgraduate (PG), and four from master's (MS) programmes (by Research) received their degrees. 

  1. Ramasami, a former secretary of the Department of Science and Technology and alumnus of the Alagappa College of Technology, spoke on graduation day, and said that a total of 283 graduates obtained first place certificates in various UG and PG courses. 

Laboratory Modernization at Anna University Costs INR 75 Crore 

Vice-Chancellor R Velraj of Anna University stated that the university had allotted INR 75 crore to update the labs across all departments. 

He said that Anna University has started a skill-aligned curriculum and most recently hosted a brainstorming workshop with more than 150 business leaders and other interested stakeholders. 

Anna University amongst Asia’s 200 Top Institutes 

Anna University has listed itself amongst the top 200 institutes in the QS Asia Universities Ranking 2023. While Anna University bagged the 185th position, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) were ranked at 53rd and 173rd positions, respectively.
