Anna University to Revise Engineering Syllabus from 2022; Read details here

Anna University has decided to revise its engineering syllabus from the academic year 2022 in order to equip students according to the industry requirements.

Anna University has taken this decision to make the engineering students more employable and show them the right guidance and support in the field of research and higher education.

Accordingly, R Velraj, Vice-chancellor, Anna University, said that the new syllabus for B.Tech and M.Tech Courses will be more diversified and will offer more flexibility and provide them with more choices.

Further, the student's requirement to pursue research and higher studies are different from those who wish to excel in administrative services or engineering industry works. Therefore, the idea is to accommodate the requirements of all three types of students in the new syllabus, said Velraj.

The Vice-Chancellor said that at present, 90% of the coursework is important and the variation in courses that a student can choose is just 10%. “After implementation of the new syllabus, only 40 per cent of the course will be mandatory. Students can select up to 60 per cent of variation in their courses”, added Velraj.

Velraj cited an example of a student opting for research program and said such students can select subjects taught in master’s degree as their honours subject in the bachelor’s level itself for better understanding.

In a smilar way, students can take up courses like public policy and economics as their minor programs, if they prefer writing the civil services exams, said the vice-chancellor.

The First-Year syllabus has been revamped in the affiliated colleges as the initial step towards the goal and it will be implemented for the new academic session, this year.

The University authorities said that the revamping process of the syllabus for second year, third year and fourth year courses is currently underway, for affiliated colleges, Anna University campus colleges, and constituent colleges. Having said that, the authorities added that it would be completed within the next six to eight months.
