New Delhi: BHU has launched an interest-free loan aid scheme for students who are unable to pursue their education due to financial constraints.

According to BHU's official statement, students whose family has a BPL card, whose parents have succumbed due to COVID-19 or are no longer alive, and the child was dependent on their earnings, would be awarded an annual support of Rs 12,000 under the plan.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain stated that the institution will provide all possible assistance to students so that they can complete their studies. The financial support will be in the form of an interest-free loan. To be eligible for the scheme, recommendations from two faculty members are necessary.

Around 1,000 children will profit from this initiative of BHU. Around 200 applications have been received in this regard, with 103 applications approved. The institution will shortly begin a new session to allow more students to apply stated Prof. K. K. Singh, Dean of Students at BHU.

Applications from students who are receiving financial support from another organisation will only be accepted if the entire amount does not exceed Rs. 12,000. Applicants should be aware that financial support will not be linked with the payment of any kind of fee to beneficiary students.

As per the official statement, once the student gets a job, he or she can repay the loans in two years in instalments. The burden for repaying the loans will not fall on the parents of the student or the faculty members who recommended the name of the student for the loan.
