New Delhi: BHU has started a trans-disciplinary research initiative to encourage and nurture trans-disciplinary research in various disciplines, with the goal of bringing its academic members together to collaborate on new areas of study and research.

BHU Launches “Promotion of Trans-Disciplinary Research” Scheme

The "Promotion of Trans-Disciplinary Research" scheme of BHU will aid in the establishment of a network of academic members from the humanities and social sciences, including arts, Indian languages, culture, law, and knowledge systems, with science and engineering fields.

BHU, an Institution of Eminence under the Ministry of Education's IoE initiative, provides an ideal venue for inter-and trans-disciplinary research. It provides hundreds of disciplines in a variety of fields ranging from ancient Indian knowledge systems to modern sciences and technology.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K Jain has also stated that given the diversity of disciplines available at the university, BHU is the best place for inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research. The initiative was authorised by BHU's governing body, which is chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K Jain, in response to the need for enhanced academic engagement among faculty members, researchers, and students from diverse disciplines.

The plan will support collaborative projects of faculty members from many faculties with the goal of developing new conceptual and methodological advances that go beyond discipline-specific techniques.

A three-member committee has been formed to oversee the scheme's implementation. Prof. Ramesh Chand of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences chairs the committee, which also includes Prof. Madhoolika Agrawal of the Institute of Science and Dr Gaganpreet Singh of the Department of History.

The "Promotion of Trans-Disciplinary Research" plan is intended to find new fields of study that may provide tremendous benefits for inter-and trans-disciplinary research. It is also consistent with the NEP 2020, which emphasises multidisciplinarity in research and education.
