BHU Launches Student Welfare Schemes for PwD & BPL Students on Gandhi Jayanti


New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched two welfare schemes to provide support to students from the underprivileged section of the society. The schemes were launched by BHU Vice Chancellor, Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

BHU Scholarship

As per Banaras Hindu University, the two new welfare schemes of the university will aim to provide education support and direct financial benefit to students who are from PwD (Person with Disability) category and to those who are Below Poverty Line (BPL). 

Under this scheme, the university will offer financial assistance to Divyang students and BPL card holders who are pursuing BHU courses. Eligible students will be offered with a financial support of INR 25,000 per annum, which will be transferred directly to their bank accounts. 

Informing about the initiative, Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain said: "With this step, every year Rs. 25,000 will be transferred into the bank accounts of all the divyang students who are currently pursuing their education from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU)”.

“Under the second scheme, BPL card holder students shall be eligible to receive a financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 per annum. This will also be transferred directly into their accounts, he added.

Adding to the statement, he stated that the university's top most priority is student's welfare and their all round development. The university will take possible steps to ensure it provides support to students of the university. It will also consider increasing the scholarship amount in the future.

Earlier, Banaras Hindu University has also launched its new initiative, called Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's Internship Program 2022 on September 30, 2022. Through this program, interested students will have the opportunity to apply for various internship programs. 

Through this program, students will have the option to apply for one year long internship programs. Participants will be paid with a fixed salary amount of INR 20,000 per month, which will be credited to their bank accounts by the end of each month.
