BHU Provides Unique Integrated Medical Teaching: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh


New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hosted its annual day celebrations, with Dr. Jitendra Singh served as the chief guest on October 16, 2022. Dr. Singh is the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministries of Science and Technology, Earth Science, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, and Atomic Energy and Space.

The time has come for India to develop integrated models of medical education, he said during the event, adding that Banaras Hindu University (BHU), which Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya founded in 1916, provides a remarkable example of integrated teaching that encompasses integrated medical education on a single campus.

All disciplines, including life sciences, medicine, engineering, arts, social sciences, technology, etc. to name a few, are present at BHU, which he called "today perhaps the largest residential academic centre, that offers diverse academic streams at the same campus and also is dedicated to focus on personal growth and mentorships."

The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) at BHU is a unique medical center because it houses faculties for Ayurveda, indigenous medical systems, dental science, allopathy, and other contemporary or western medical systems. 

According to Jitendra Singh, it also intends to provide yoga and ayurvedic courses on the same grounds. India's medical community is praised worldwide, especially after the COVID outbreak. 

It was India's medical professionals who suited up not only overnight but also admirably reoriented themselves to defeat the challenging problem in a manner that it had served as a model for the rest of the world to follow at a time when health professionals across the globe due to COVID pandemic. 

He continued that India not only developed the first DNA vaccine but also supplied it to the rest of the globe with the help of an integrated ecosystem.
