New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi has recorded an increase in the number of enrollments from international students for this session. As per the updates, the current enrollment of international students stood at 221 across all courses, which is highest in the last five years.
BHU attracts experts and students from all around the world. The institution offers courses and research programs in a variety of fields, including modern sciences, humanities, arts and culture, advanced medical studies, and systems of knowledge and medicine that date back to ancient Indian civilizations.
The increase in overseas students' enrollment at BHU is evidence of how well-liked BHU is among students from other nations as well. For the academic year 2022–23, the university has recorded has received 276 enrolments from international students till the first week of January 2023.
Out of the total enrollments, 83 students have been admitted under the ICCR scholarship category and the remaining 193 students have secured admission seats under the self-finance category.
There are now 551 international students enrolled across a range of programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate, research, and short-term certificate or diploma programmes.
Banaras Hindu University has made a number of steps to increase the strength of international students. It has introduced a new programme that will award every overseas student who is not already receiving financial aid a scholarship of Rs. 72,000 each year.
In addition to this, those receiving a lesser amount of scholarships will be offered a smaller scholarship award. The university has also ordered a 400-seat boys' hostel specifically for international students, which is equipped with required facilities including free medical services.
The hostel has all the latest conveniences, including large living areas with associated kitchens and bathrooms, wi-fi, a pantry, a laundry room, a gym, indoor game rooms, conference rooms, communal dining areas with over 125 seats, CCTV surveillance, and round-the-clock security.
The old boys' international hostel complex has been converted into a ladies' hostel, adding 176 seats, to increase the number of dormitory beds for female foreign students. There are 62 beds available in the current international girls' hostel, while there are 40 beds available at the Siddhartha Vihar hostel complex.
The 200 additional rooms and 400 additional seats at the brand-new international girls' hostel are almost finished. Additionally, the new facility has all of today's conveniences.
To make BHU a highly sought-after institution, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain has been concentrating more on building the university's instructional and research facilities and further improving student amenities.
According to Prof. S V S Raju, Coordinator of the BHU International Centre, the Center actively helps and supports international students during the admissions process and assists them with registration processes. BHU provides higher education of high calibre at affordable fee costs when compared to other universities.
