BPUT to Offer Combined 5-year MTech and BTech Programmes

New Delhi: Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has decided to introduce a five-year combined MTech and BTech programmes.

According to the latest reports, the government has not yet approved the request that BPUT submitted. The university's Centre for Advanced Post Graduate (PG) Studies at its Rourkela campus is currently offering PG engineering courses in five disciplines, including electrical, electronics & telecommunication, civil, mechanical, and computer science.

The centre stated that the response for PG engineering courses offered by BPUT has not been good amongst the students.

The idea to introduce integrated engineering UG, PG programmes has also been confirmed by Professor Chittaranjan Tripathy, Vice-Chancellor of BPUT.

Professor said that the MTech and BTech programmes will be provided through the Centre for Advanced PG Studies, adding that the varsity is awaiting the permission.

The integrated MTech programmes would have a total of 200 seats across five disciplines, while the BTech programmes would be available across 10 disciplines with 30 seats each.

Professor Tripathy added that although the required infrastructure is in place, some academic buildings for laboratories and other academic facilities would be created gradually.

Recently, the Minister for Skill Development & Technical Education PR Ghadei visited BPUT, and the administration gave him a presentation about the proposal to introduce an integrated MTech and BTech course to speed up the clearance process.

The latest reports suggest that the Minister had promised to quickly provide the necessary approval of the integrated programmes.

According to former Rourkela MLA Pravat Mohapatra, the university primarily grants PhD, MTech, and undergraduate degrees in engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture, planning, and other technical fields to its member and affiliated technical educational institutions.

He asserted that the university headquarters site in Rourkela lacks substantial academic activity and urged the government to expeditiously grant permission to offer new courses in order to foster a lively intellectual environment on campus.
