Mr. R.P. Dubey is the Vice-Chancellor of DR. C.V. Raman University, Bilaspur. He is a senior academician with administrative and governance experience. The exposure and contributions to various functions – from teaching at one end of the spectrum to managing institutions at the other – defines his career.

In conversation with Mayank, Mr. Dubey with clear thought process revealed his point of view on education industry, his college and also revealed the future plans of the college. Aspiring students you have got a special message from the Vice-Chancellor himself.

Education sector has ample of opportunities

My work experience in the industry has been good so far. Why is this the best industry, you ask. I would say that this industry has ample of advantages and opportunities in stored. In my career, it gave me exposure to multiple perspectives and taught me to have a stable schedule.

This industry never hampers or disturbs your work and personal life balance. You have a reliable work schedule and stable working hours. It also gives us a chance to interact with the future of the country and build them to be successful one day.

A leader should have the ability to lead

I strongly believe that a leader must have a specific skill set that suit his or her ability to lead an organization or department. These qualities can be learned, acquired through education, or adopted by new skills and technologies. It is important to know yourself and your employees. 

To bring a change, the leader should change himself first (if needed) and then implement the ideas for the betterment of everyone. Leadership shapes the orientation and approach to life and growth. A leader should have charismatic personality as well as strength to lead the people in the right direction.

Challenges are what prepares you for better tomorrow

Right now, every challenge that I have faced so far is like an opportunity to grow and develop. Encouraging greater flexibility and accessibility to educate the mass, irrespective of physical and geographical boundaries is one of the obstacles that we need to overcome. 

Non-utilization of the latest technologies and scientific knowledge in teaching are the major challenges faced by the industry. To groom and educate the students as per the corporate demands is what we always focus at. We also intend towards entrepreneur development programs so that we can encourage students to think in terms of starting their enterprise.

Industry based learning has become important

E-learning, digital classrooms, holistic approach, hands-on practical training, research-oriented curriculum, the emergence of skill-based education and transforming students into professionals are some major changes in the past few years that have become a part of the curriculum today. 

We have always endeavoured to prepare students for the immensely changing professional world so that immediately after graduation they are ready to contribute to the industry's growing demand for a skilled workforce. Skill sets like Adaptive thinking, Problem-solving and Innovation are the basic requirements by a corporate in a student.

Ideal university environment should promote overall development of students

The ideal university environment should promote the overall development of students by innovative learning, motivation and positive thinking. Imparting quality education to students via effective incorporation of Information and Communication Technology, i.e., ICT based teaching practices should be adopted. An educational institute shall also offer education exchange, cultural exchange and research-oriented programs as a part of their curriculum. 

To provide excellence in teaching and student engagement is our priority

My burning desire to do the best for the student is in the centre of the vision and I believe by doing a great job with the small things, great things happen. The major goal I have in mind is to provide excellence in teaching, student engagement and adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of the community. To provide appropriate facilities, quality, productive work, study and learning environment aimed at engaging the university effectiveness. The main objective is to maintain and refine support systems for enhancing university functions and student success together.

Mentorship is a key tool that university students often overlook. Many simply do not know where to look. Potential mentors are all around you. Business professors, graduate students, or academic advisers: Mentors are in every corner of your university. Do not let “I can do it myself” stubbornness or plain-old fear keep you away from the advice and guidance you need.
