In a statement, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University Sonali Chakrabarty Banerjee said that chairpersons of undergraduate boards of study and members of PG faculty councils both suggested offline assessments at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

A meeting with the principals of affiliated institutions will be conducted to seek their views on the examination mode on May 27. All of these opinions and suggestions will be presented to the Syndicate for final consideration on June 3.

Previously, Jadavpur University and Rabindra Bharati University announced that they would be holding offline exams for various streams at the UG and PG levels. A group of Rabindra Bharati University students staged a protest and gherao on the B T Road campus against the decision to hold an offline examination, but the varsity authorities refused to budge and insisted that the students write their papers offline.

Meanwhile, Kalyani University has announced holding examinations in online mode. Semester exams had to be held in online mode in different higher educational institutions in the last two years due to the pandemic, and students in RBU and earlier in JU demanded to conduct semester exams in a similar manner this year as well because they had not been able to attend offline classes and take notes of the entire curriculum.
