New Delhi: Calcutta University has begun the application process for the PhD programme in Journalism and Mass Communication for the academic session 2022-23. Aspiring candidates can submit the online application form through the official portal.

Calcutta University offers Ph.D. at research level with various specialisations. Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme can submit their applications till November 28, 2022.

The basic eligibility for getting admission into Ph.D is a pass in the relevant PG degree from a recognized university and the selection is based on a Entrance Test conducted by the university followed by an interview.

The university has allotted 05 (Five) seats [Unreserved-2; Schedule Caste-2; OBC-B-1] for the PhD programme for the academic session 2022-23. 

Calcutta University PhD Admission 2023: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates intending to enrol for admission to the PhD programme will have to meet the requisite eligibility criteria. 

  • Candidates must hold a M.E./M.Tech./B.Tech./B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering, or equivalent and MCA degree. 
  • Candidates with B.Tech./B.E. Are also eligible to apply for the program as per provisions laid down in Section 6.4 of the Ph.D. regulations. The same criteria would also be applicable for MCA students.
  • The final semester/year students for the above qualifying courses may also apply. However, such candidates, if selected, must complete their qualifying degree before the date of enrolment.

Calcutta University PhD Admission 2023: Selection Process

  • Candidate's selection to the PhD programme will be made on the basis of a Written Test followed by an Interview. 
  • Those who will qualify in the Written Test will have to appear for an Interview. 
  • Candidates with NET/SET/M.Phil. are not required to appear for the Written Test and are eligible to apply for appearing in the Interview directly. 
  • Seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B/Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates as per the West Bengal Higher Education Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Rules, 2013

Calcutta University PhD Admission 2023: How to Apply?

Step 1: Visit the official application portal of Calcutta University @www.caluniv.ac.in

Step 2: Register yourself after filling the required details, such as Mobile number, Email Id etc.

Step 3: Now, login with your registration credentials and fill all details in the Application form.

Step 4: Pay the application fee and submit the Application form. 

Step 5: Applicants must also take a print out of the form for all future needs.

Calcutta University PhD Admission 2023: Written Test 

The university will conduct the Written Test, in a MCQ format, which would contain 100 questions of 2 marks each. For each wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

Topics for the Test:

  • Paper-I (100 marks, 50 questions): General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Reasoning Ability, Comprehension Skill;
  • Paper-II (100 marks, 50 Questions): Journalism and Mass Communication, Research Techniques, etc.
  • The Qualifying Marks for the Written Test: 50% (for General candidates); 45% (for OBC-A and OBC-B candidates); 37.5% (for SC/ST candidates) in individual papers to qualify for the interview.
